Ok, so a car wash kills it. What happens when it rains? Do they sell a giant umbrella to mount on the stupid ass thing?

Maybe the soap dissolves some load bearing glue?

It's not a joke, the frame is plastic and the steel panels are glued on.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Subframe might be plastic but the frame is cast aluminum. Which has its own issues since it's failure modes aren't as forgiving as steel. The glued on part is 100% though.

i love how people debunking claims about cybertrucks is just "no no, it's fucked in a different way"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

The cybertruck is a true modern marvel of piece of shit design. It's hard to get all the facts straight considering how fucked it is.

[–] starman2112 2 points 1 week ago

The fact that it's cast aluminum is tremendously funny to me. I love watching videos of these things fall apart trying to tow anything

As I understand it from another thread about this, it's normal to use adhesives on modern cars. Just that Tesla fucked up and uses the wrong adhesive.

Theres no excuse for securing a big flat steel plate to the exterior of a vehicle with glue. Bolt em or weld em.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wait till you learn that Boeing has used laminated (glued) skins on every 737 since the 80s. Glue can be fine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

737 outer panels are bolted to all hell, stfu

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

The skin is comprised of a laminated structure, an outer chemically milled skin(to reduce weight) and a "waffle" structure known tear straps. Yes there's rivets, but the structural strength is in that lamination between the waffle doubler.

Wait till you learn how all cars are built these days.

I love when people who don't know anything about a subject act like they know anything about a subject

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

lol wtf that's even more hilarious now 😂 🤣🤣

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I wonder if it's because the "geniuses" at Tesla forgot to protect the electronics from water coming up from beneath it. It would explain a lot lol

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's a YouTube video of someone chopping one up and that's exactly what it is. There're holes in the frame that allow water to get inside the battery compartment and pool there.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Oops all electrical shorts lol

[–] Piemanding 18 points 1 week ago

Somewhere else I saw that there are unprotected wires in a well of the frame that can accumulate water.

So that means someone could potentially brick a cybertruck by spraying water on it from below at the right spot?

I'd make a crack about declaring war on puddles but they'll probably do it at this point

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

sorry but since it's in crack form your sentencing has a mandatory minimum.

We're sorry to report that rain is now communist.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Water now woke. Immortan Joe time.

Or a lawn sprinkler. Or a slip'n'slide.
