World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Sorry for multiple posts, but my points are different.
Impose tariffs on Denmark? Do you all know what we import from Denmark? Medication and medical devices. So that would further increase the cost of healthcare in the US. He already signed an executive order to undo the $35 insulin cap for Medicaid recipients. He is actively raising healthcare prices.
Tariffs would only hurt both countries.
There is no way to impose tariffs on Danish goods. We're part of the EU, and the inner market, so we'll just send the goods from some other EU country. So any tariff on Denmark would have to be a tariff on EU.
It all makes sense when you accept that he's been installed by our enemies to destroy the US.
No, actually he was installed by our oligarchs to destroy the country, so they can buy it for cheap. Just like last time!
"they are the same picture"
Our
Enemies
Actually he was installed by incredibly stupid, shortsighted and/or far right people in a process called democracy 🤷♂️
When the media that people are shown is microtargeted and controlled by 2 billionaires who are buddies with Trump, you don't have a democracy anymore.
Well, Trump isn't something new. Everybody could see what he is in his previous term or before. There is also other media and social networks not controlled by oligarchy. Finding an excuse is hard, it's not like - ouch, media is controlled. So again, stupidity, ignorance, greed and such.
...that were fooled by the oligarchy into believing in things like trickle-down economics and that a white poor person is superior to a brown poor person.
Watch USAmericans go to war against russia instead of finally killing their slavers. They never learned who their true enemy is so far, lets hope this time is different.
Unlikely
You gotta make better enemies.
We only have the best enemies!
Tariffs seem to be Trump's go-to move nowadays. "Grab them by the wallet".
Not "Grab them" but "Grab the US consumer". Tariffs raise prices inside the USA. The target country only loses by being less competitive in the US market.
Trump wants to raise import taxes on goods from everyone, so only US goods are competitive. Trouble is the US has exported a bunch of manufacturing so it must import.
His voters still don't seem to have figured out that just means things will cost them more.
it's annoying that politicians don't call it what it is: import tax.
Oh, not his beloved McDonald's.
It's also an integrated EU economy, so I'd assume the entire European single market would retaliate.
But yeah, he doesn't care about or understand that. Or at least won't until there's active unrest in America over the crazy inflation and layoffs.
None of that is ever blamed on the Republican president in office though.
To date, it hasn't been the president's fault. The shit they do makes it's way to workers and consumers well after they leave office, for the most part. This would be different, and in some cases very uneven - if there's an accross-the-board 25% tariff with Canada, the Detroit auto industry basically shuts down and lays everyone off today.
Yes, to add you cannot impose targeted tariffs on Danish goods, as these are typically traded within the EU before going to the US.
It would hurt both countries, but Denmark can still sell their medication and medical devices to the rest of the world.
These tariffs in general are going to hurt Americans far more than anyone else.
Ozempic comes to mind. It's still under patent, so I guess there's no other source than Novo Nordisk in Denmark.
You know what is from Denmark? Ozempic
Do you think he cares?
That is very on brand for trump. Pissing off a former ally and messing up healthcare worse for "his own" country.
Not like trump cares about that
Wait he seriously undid the cap already??? Fucking for real?
Like I shouldn't be surprised...
It was only capped for Medicare recipients like retirees and congresspersons, HHS is still reporting it as active policy

Thank you for the correction,it's a shame all this discussion happened without that context
On Day One, iirc
https://lmddgtfy.net/?q=undo%20insulin%20cap%20trump
many articles say that this didn't happen.
Tariff wars alway hurt all involved.
https://lmddgtfy.net/?q=undo%20insulin%20cap%20trump what are all these articles saying?
