Welcome to MoG!
Meanwhile On Grad
Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

If it weren't for the pretty glaring selection bias (I think that's the right term), you'd be right. But it's pretty easy to imagine that trans people were more interested in responding to that poll than others.
The resulting error of that selection bias decreases as the sample rate increases - that's part of the reason why sample rates are a valuable indicator of survey accuracy
But having that discussion is qualitatively different than dismissing whatever assumptions brought by it by saying 'I don't believe it'.
Where did you get the idea that OP knew this information and dismissed it? I haven't seen any evidence of that.
He knew 50% was the figure in question and he said 'i don't believe anything that comes out of hexbear'. Stands to reason he very well did have that information and simply dismissed it for having come from hexbear.
"figure in question"? I'm asking for specifics. Because all I see is the image in this post.
You asked how I knew he had that information and dismissed it, and I pointed out he was repeating the information and dismissing it lmao
You didn't. And we definitely still don't know that. We don't know the context but it does seem likely some random user said it without linking a source. It's really not as complicated as you are making it
Except there's no factual reason to doubt that demographic except for whatever prejudices you have against them
Their existence really has nothing to do with your opinions about them, and thinking otherwise is what makes it transphobic.
Unless you count the fact that trans people make up an incredibly small percentage of the population overall. ~~I'm sure OP wasn't thinking of that when he... Checks notes mentioned it explicitly.~~
Awesome. So next time I or no one else expresses literally any opinion whatsoever on how others live, we'll all be sure to... Continue not doing that.
Thanks again for your helpful feedback
Edit: op didn't mention the stat about trans people generally, that was from a comment im falsely remembering as op. But that doesn't change the point I'm making at all
Underrepresented minorities disproportionately join minority-centric social groups, that isn't surprising.
Ah yes, excellent proof of.5% changing to 50%.
Do you ever watch the NBA and think to yourself, "WOW, being taller than 6'4 is exceptionally rare! The odds that they are all here playing basketball together is simply unbelievable"?
A terrible analogy. There's nothing about using a particular Internet server that people are predisposed to having the ability to do.
There is if that server was made specifically by those people for that purpose, though.
First I've ever heard of that concerning hexbear but another great point. Literally everyone especially op knows that
"Most of us are trans"
"I don't believe you"
"Here's a demographic poll showing that we are indeed majority trans"
"That seems really unlikely, you must be lying or that poll must be wrong"
"Here's a detailed history of our origin explaining exactly why it isn't at all unlikely that we are who we say we are"
"Ah, forgive me for my error, I believe you now"
Literally none of that happened
We're in a version of that conversation right now bud
I know I believe everything I read online. Because if I didn't, that would make me a bigot. Good and reasonable, totally non moronic talk. Thanks!
But you must have some way of discerning truth on the internet one way or the other, otherwise nothing could ever be true
Some dude saying it doesn't make it true or anyone a transphobe. Absolutely no leg to stand on here.
Nor does saying 'i don't believe it' make that doubt any more legitimate and any less motivated by transphobic prejudice.
You're in earnest arguing that something is transphobic by default since it can't be proven otherwise. Lol, possibly dumbest thing I've ever read online
Not by default, by explicitly dismissing the minority status of a majority-trans community simply because they don't fit their expectation of a trans person.
If that's the dumbest thing you've read online I have some really bad news for you.
That sentence doesn't even make sense with or without the context of this conversation.
It's that you're going to keep one-upping it, isn't it?
Take the fucking L and stop reaching for shit. I haven't yet seen you make any point that stands. All you're doing is trying to make yourself feel better by saying other people are horrible with the implication you aren't. Pitiful way to live
Just because you don't understand it? I'll rephrase it: "explicitly dismissing the trans-status of a majority-trans community". Better?
That's exactly what this community is lol
"I don't believe X" is not necessarily a statement about X. This is a prime example of it. They dismissed no evidence, they simply stated they don't believe something that there's plenty of reasons to find unlikely. ✌️
Right, bigotry isn't actually about the quality being marginalized, it's about reinforcing a desired hierarchy using whatever distinctions are most convenient and salient. Hard to paint them as bigots when they themselves are minorities; easier (and far more rhetorically salient) to simply deny their trans identity altogether.
No one denied that, please leave me alone
