I remember seeing some thing on Nova years ago where they gave people a small brain implant that allowed them to intuitively find magnetic north the way birds do then had the group with the implants blind folded and told to walk in as straight of a line as they could, vs a control group with no implant. The group with the implant was able to stay perfectly straight, while the group without had trouble staying in a straight line.

They could straight up give you new senses with these things.
