Have you tried the update? There are comments in the article that claim discord fixed both Wayland and X11. Haven't confirmed myself, but hopefully those comments are right!

I'll probably stick with vesktop too though, I've become too attached to custom themes

Those custom themes mostly mask the baloney the discord design team does
