Hello, Protestant German here. I’m hearing a lot about the infamous Quran burnings in Sweden, and find it very strange. To me it’s fighting fire with fire, and as Muslims are very religious I can imagine it hurts them a lot.

Can someone help me understand how this makes sense?

Maybe I don’t have the full picture. Thank you!

Being upset doesn't trump constitutional rights. The end.

But you do realize how fucking dumb it is to live your freedom by hurting others? Not accepting that others have other values I’d support ignorant and uneducated.

I dont think the replies youve gotten represents the sentiments in sweden about the burnings. The right wing people are very loud online.

I would guess around 90% of swedes are sickend by the burnings and consider them a very childish sort of protest. There are people in sweden who hate muslims. They probably think its awesome but they are a minority.

The issue is that its a form of protest that is allowed by swedish law and thus the police have to allow the burnings. I think many swedes are torn because most of us despise the burnings but we also dont want more strict laws that regulate free speech and the right to protest.

They hurt no one, only people weak of the mind. You don't become a little bit less Muslim for every book burned right?

Besides, islam isn't one to play moral authority on anything when they toss homosexuals off roofs and kill people over some real inane, and downright mentally challenged things.

If freedom was limited to other people’s feelings, we wouldn’t have a Pride parade. Imagine all the people who are offended by the very existence of homosexuality!

The difference is that they think they will go to hell, if they do not defend god. And going to heaven is their life goal.

Come on, your not uneducated, you’re just arrogant and overwhelmed by globalism. You understand this deep down.
