Hello, Protestant German here. I’m hearing a lot about the infamous Quran burnings in Sweden, and find it very strange. To me it’s fighting fire with fire, and as Muslims are very religious I can imagine it hurts them a lot.

Can someone help me understand how this makes sense?

Maybe I don’t have the full picture. Thank you!

I dont think the replies youve gotten represents the sentiments in sweden about the burnings. The right wing people are very loud online.

I would guess around 90% of swedes are sickend by the burnings and consider them a very childish sort of protest. There are people in sweden who hate muslims. They probably think its awesome but they are a minority.

The issue is that its a form of protest that is allowed by swedish law and thus the police have to allow the burnings. I think many swedes are torn because most of us despise the burnings but we also dont want more strict laws that regulate free speech and the right to protest.
