Review: Heart of Dorkness (www.royalroad.com)

Heart of Dorkness is Isekai/LitRPG. It’s a pretty silly story, but enjoyable. It has action, but the part that makes it special are the slice of life parts. The pacing is a bit slow some times, but it’s fine overall. A cute story

Rock falls, everyone dies is comedic LitRPG. It's quite fun and due to it being only about 200 pages long, it's perfect if you want a short break, for example if you just read a over 2000 page web novel. It can be read in one sitting with ease. The story has a lot of turnarounds and never gets repetitive. If you have a bit of time, just read it. It's complete and brief so you don't have to worry about finishing it and can just enjoy.

Overall this is a good story. You will probably like it if you like magic-academy stories. At least in the part I read so far, the story is good, not perfect but very enjoyable. It especially does a good job with the world building.

Description:

Working class student Giorgio deGloria has a lofty goal - to become one of the most powerful archmages in the City of Rings, and to explore the depths of the Crystal Ring Academy- a sprawling dungeon-turned-college at the heart of the city. But in order to move up in the world, he has to compete with his wealthy classmates for the incredibly limited attention span of the few instructors in the ringed city that will give an unawoken mage the time of day. His classmates all have spell books full of unique and expensive magics, but Gio only has access to one uncommon spell starting the semester-  Reflect.

Review: Mother of Learning (www.royalroad.com)

Mother of Learning is ubiquitous in lists of the best web novels and that is for a good reason. It shares some vibes with Harry Potter and follows Zorian, who is stuck in a time loop that makes him repeat the first month of his third year at the academy. I really enjoyed the character development and the twists and turns the story has. Overall it’s generally a great story. It can be read completely on Royal Road, bought on Amazon as ebook and is also available as an audiobook or physically on kickstarter.

This is a reincarnation LitRPG with a fork MC. I think no more is needed to be said. Seriously, the story is good and there is a (pseudo official) audio book available.

Description:

Now we've all heard stories about people who died and were born again with their memories intact. The form of the reincarnator changes from story to story: human, elf, orc, slime, vampire, goblin; you name it, someone wrote it. But what if you were reborn in the most common of houshold objects?

What would happen if someone reincarnated as a fork?

Involves: merciless fork jokes, monsters, magic n' all that stuff, some profanity, maybe some gore (i'll keep it light), fork philosophy, and if you got advice on where to go next with the novel, comment, coz I only got a hazy outline.

The story is nice, just a bit bare bones. Of course the main selling part is the rhyming and that is done really well. The story is complete with 321 pages.

Description:

Every child in every town has heard adventure’s call songs and stories of the hero, known and loved by all but every now and then a stubborn child will come along who will not rest until they’ve been the hero in a song

And what awaits the child who chases dreams until their end those who challenge fate with every day they have to spend would they know the questions to the answers which they find what of all the family and friends they left behind

Should this be a tale of good and evil, or of fate choices made in moments lost and battles won too late somewhere on the hero’s path he might just go astray maybe it’s a simple song to those who know the way

Really liking this one so far, interesting mix of new elements with the regular LitRPG stuff.

Description:

Listen here, because I've seen it with my very own eyes.

William Oh was born on the hundredth floor of The Tower, to the greatest Climbers of the ancient world, steeped in the Tower's lethal miasma from the moment he drew breath, giving him strange and unnatural powers.

They say he is an immortal being who circles the dreams of mortal men, resurfacing wherever the need is greatest. Those who disparage him will fall into despair, but if you're a Climber in a tight scrape, look to the sky and say a little prayer.

Maybe he will appear?

Odds are probably better if you pay for my drink.

Rumor overheard on a 1st Floor Tavern. Originator did not pay his tab.
