I have had quite a battle with/trying to avoid Remarkable's cloud service with both my RM1 and RM2. It is very deeply linked, and their privacy policy isn't the best.

This might not be applicable if you're only going to use it as an ereader, but I want to keep sensitive documents on mine and it has not been easy. I currently use this script, but it's a clunky experience.

Unbelievably good piece of hardware though!

I have a current gen Outback, and I have all the issues!

Admittedly, it very reliably goes down the road when I'm towing it with my truck.

I think a Niche Zero and a Profitec GO would be an outstanding bang-for-buck combo!

I fought this battle at every price point and the nanobeams are absolutely the way to go. Extremely easy and reliable.

I wish I'd started with them!

Dude I can't get this question out of my head!

I wonder if you could use these locking quick disconnect keychains--I think you can find them in a whole bunch of different metals:

Also, if you're looking for hardware in any material you can imagine, check out mcmaster.com.

I've spent some time considering various actual electrical connectors, but...I don't think they fit your mission.

Good luck man--please let us know what you come up with.

I feel like enabling FIDO2 2FA on mobile apps would be a much better use of resources at the moment.

Awesome project, thanks for sharing!

Definitely obvious how much time and how many lessons learned have gone into your setup.

I don't see a way to sign up without email, and the vote for it on the Agora still looks like it's in progress. I've searched @[email protected] and @[email protected]'s posts/comments for anything about this, and haven't found it...

...did it pass? Did I miss something?

I had a new one this morning!

  • Dog bumps into server cabinet, pushing it against the wall, kinking the fiber optic cable that the DNS server uses.

It was a combination of factors, really:

  • Not often, but often enough...I had some significant problems with version upgrades and would end up having to configure the whole system again from scratch;
  • My hardware was getting pretty old. While pricing out an upgrade for it, I was surprised to find a more capable Synology for less (DS1821+);
  • Remote backups. I have had a bazillion different solutions for off-site backups, and none of them have stood the test of time. The last one before Synology was a separate machine running Duplicati, pulling data from TrueNAS, and sending it off to an ODROID-HC2 running Minio. It worked sometimes. Hyper Backup on Synology is an entirely different world of ease and reliability--it has been flawless.
  • I kind of got tired of TrueNAS as a hobby. I ran into and waited for resolution on bugs, had a bunch of customizations done from the command line that I'd forget about before the next time a version upgrade wouldn't work and I'd have to start over, and just in general had to keep up my knowledge managing the thing (cruising the forum and subreddit). Synology isn't as flexible, but I never have to deal with it...and that has been pretty nice.
