I think you'd be surprised how unprepared they are for hypersonic warfare. Before today, they used some pretty old ones that only go hypersonic towards the end. Not sure what was done today exactly, it's hard to say this early, but there is a special missile they've been teasing for over a year that's for just this purpose.

Oh that one's good too, I was sending that to people I know and we were laughing about how bloodthirsty it is. The "second chance" bit in between missile strikes is what gets me about this.
