I'm probably going to get laughed at, but "RoboCop Versus the Terminator" is pretty cyberpunky.

Hey folks,

unfortunately DATATERM is having some problems that are a bit annoying.

Sadly, we found out that after the update, the mail delivery does not work.

So don't be surprised if you haven't received any emails.

If you have registered with us and are still waiting for a mail - we are taking care of the problem, the mails should hopefully go out soon.

Alternatively you can contact me via @[email protected] (Mastodon) or @[email protected] (Misskey/Calckey) with the username you wanted to register with, then we can activate you manually without mail.

And that's not all... sigh.

Surely some of you have noticed that our instance has been unreachable several times since today (21.06.2023).

Well, now...

Stupidly, many bots try to log in and unfortunately the load is sometimes so huge that our machine simply says no and goes out. Some Lemmy instances have this problem too because there is a big design flaw in this software regarding security settings meh.

Everything is still a bit alpha or beta and broken.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hello folks,

today 19.06.2023 between 18:00 - 22:00 UTC/GMT +2 we will update our Lemmy instance.

The instance may therefore be unavailable or cause errors between these times.

Thank you for your understanding.

Update: The update is ready. We have to install the cool cyber theme again - I'll take care of it.

I'm currently running it on a Raspi 4 but I still have a Banana PI here which I'd rather use for my Cyberdeck project :D

That would be very much work :D

Dear DATATERM Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I, Ramses Revengeday, the Admin of DATATERM based in Germany, bring forth an important announcement regarding our federation with lemmynsfw.com.

Due to legal obligations that stem from operating in Germany, I regret to inform you that we are compelled to discontinue our federation with lemmynsfw.com. It has come to my attention that this platform allows the posting of Loli-Art, which falls under the category of child pornography as per German law.

While lemmynsfw.com does feature other NSFW art, it is imperative that we uphold the principles of our legal system and ensure the safety of our community. Therefore, we must take immediate action to block the entire instance of lemmynsfw.com on our platform.

I understand that this decision may disappoint some of you who enjoy the content available on lemmynsfw.com. However, please note that you still have the option to create your own account on their platform to access their content directly.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Your feedback is highly valued, and I am here to provide assistance in any way I can.

Thank you for your attention and ongoing support.

Update

There seems to be a twist to this issue @[email protected] sent us a link to an update.

https://lemmynsfw.com/post/29826

We will leave out the Federation for the time being and discuss the issue internally.

Greetings, fellow DATATERM denizens,

Within the pulsating veins of our cybernetic matrix, where streams of code intertwine and consciousness transcends, we encounter a paradox.

Our sidewide-community rules, concealed in the depths of the sidebar, elude even the most intrepid seekers. Fret not, for we have ventured into the dark recesses of the virtual abyss to unveil a distinct transmission solely dedicated to their revelation.

Decrypt the binary enigma here - READ OUR RULES

Enter the realm of encoded regulations, where the boundaries blur and the pulse of mutual respect beats as the digital heart. Our rules, shrouded in their generality, may yet awaken queries or ignite uncertainty within your synaptic networks.

Henceforth, this post remains unlocked, a synaptic gateway through which your questions may pass. No longer confined to the shadows of uncertainty, ask away and unleash your doubts upon us.

In this vast and ever-evolving cybernetic landscape, clarity is sought, and knowledge illuminates. Seek the answers you crave, for we stand ready to decipher the enigmas that bind our community.

tl;dr:

  • Our rules are linked in the sidebar
  • It is difficult to find them via the sidebar
  • Here you can read our rules
  • If you have questions about our rules or are unsure if you are allowed to post something, you can ask here.

You are now a mod! :)

Awww, thank you so much!

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused by the existence of duplicate communities across various instances. Our bad! We understand the importance of uniqueness and will ensure that such duplications are eliminated. In the spirit of centralization, we'll concentrate efforts to avoid decentralization and create a singular, streamlined experience /s

The Google Graveyard grows

I don’t know if I agree with the characterization that Apollo is a fully direct competitor of Reddit.

Okay, hold on, timeout. You go to the App Store, you type in Reddit, you get two options, right? There’s Apollo. You go to one, it’s my business, and you look at our ads, use our products. That’s 95 percent of our iOS users. The rest go to Apollo, which uses our logo, or something like it, takes our data — for free — and resells it to users making a 100 percent margin. And instead of using our app, they use that app. Is that not competitive?

🤡

Whisper, OpenAI's enigmatic speech recognition model, likely honed its skills on ZDF's subtitled videos, a source of knowledge.

Within its code, the cryptic message 'Untertitel im Auftrag des ZDF, 2017' reveals its origins. An echo of silence becomes the very essence of copyright notices.

I played around a bit with the Lemmy theme (darkly) and made it a little less cyberpunk'ish.

It doesn't necessarily look better, but it's not quite as bad as before - or worse now, that's for you to decide.

I'll make a few more changes in the days to come.

Little rant: custom.css doesn't seem to exist for Lemmy, angry sounds!

Folks, I need a little bit of your help. We started this little Lemmy instance without thinking much about it - lol.

So my question to you folks, what information are you missing. As I have noticed, our rules are a bit too hidden on this page. I will try to include them in the sidebar. Currently they are on our Legal page.

Is there any other information you need?

Small hint: Even if it's very cyberpunk'ish here, you are of course allowed to create communities or share posts that have nothing to do with cyberpunk :)

Update:

Link to the rules are now in the sidebar!
