we should have collectively realized way earlier

some people have, but whenever you'd mention it, you'd be met with "lol take the tinfoil hat off", "but we're already using [for-profit platform] why would we move when everyone's here" and "but it's haaaaaaard".

I've never played multiplayer games in my childhood (long story), and the first multiplayer I've really tried was PUBG Mobile. I've been hooked on it for about three years and made some online friends over it. when EA made Apex Legends available on Linux last year I've switched to it and clocked about 600 hours since then. I really enjoy the BR format, and even though I've never tried a competitive shooter like Counter Strike or Valorant (fuck their intrusive anticheat by the way), running exactly the same lines on the same map and constantly holding the same angles and hoping to just outreact the opponent by a milisecond doesn't appeal to me.

Spotify's Discover Weekly used to be great for me for a long time and I'd get lots of new music that I liked. it got pretty stale over the past year or so, with stuff that I don't enjoy at all, and it often recommends me the same songs that I tell it to not recommend. it feels like I've reached the end of the internet and there's no more music left to try.

It does, however, still work quite well with the Windows version via Steam Play Proton on desktop Linux and is Steam Deck Verified against the Windows version in Proton. So while it's a loss of support for their Native build, it's still fully playable on Linux.

They don't understand that we never agreed to any of their TOS/policies, they don't understand that we don't use their API.

What now?

Things will continue normally until they can't anymore.

Assume it's just the start.

Assume they'll ask GitHub to takedown the repos (if so go to our Gitea https://gitea.invidious.io/iv-org ).

Assume the team wont be able to work on Invidious.

You know what you have to do.

May Invidious live and prosper, with, or without us.

PS: We won't do anything unless we have to.

PS-2: If we are forced to quit, any funds remaining will go to Framasoft (and maybe some other organization working on FOSS/privacy)

In a surprising move, Japan’s government recently reaffirmed that it will not enforce copyrights on data used in AI training. The policy allows AI to use any data “regardless of whether it is for non-profit or commercial purposes, whether it is an act other than reproduction, or whether it is content obtained from illegal sites or otherwise.”
