Fyi: Games by mimimi, while play similar to desperados and comandos back in the day, they aren't exactly the same thought.

In those games, you can start shooting out in a fire fight if shit hit the fan. Newer games treat it as a puzzle instead and you aren't allowed to do so because of cool down and limited ammo. Still filling the gap just fine

tldr; I watched some gaming documentaries and got hooked by Yakuza's stories. I think you may have to hit a gem that hooked you too its story.

I had similar experience. My answer may not be valuable much. Some how, I managed to get back my passion for gaming even I bought a Series S and susceptible to GamePass

I watched some gaming documentaries by Noclip and they fired up my passion about gaming. Then played Yakuza series. I was so hooked to their story that I couldn't stop thinking of them and played them daily like a TV series addict.

The fire die down eventually, then it's Sekiro that fan it up again. It's challenging, but beating each boss was so satisfying that I play new game plus. As some one who finish a game once and move on. This is a surprise.

For me, it's because the number of comments is too low to expect that some one may summarize the article.
