I dunno. That's 4 guys left in touching distance who can drop BOC for fun. Circling like sharks. I'm getting Simon Yates 2018 giro vibes, but will be delighted if I'm wrong. Great race either way.

Didn't really seem likely from the start. The manner of his victory last year made it pretty clear he's a long shot against a decent field and noone was going to let him up the road this year. The BOC parallels this year are amazing, difference being two of the strongest three competitors aren't his teammates.

I really enjoyed them too, which I guess I could have made clearer. I felt like my enjoyment was heightened by my knowledge and nostalgia for the books, but interesting yto hear another positive perspective without that aspect. I suppose what I'm trying to say is not that they aren't or can't be good, but that they aren't and can't be a faithful and complete adaptation.

The world building aspect is why I tend to think TV series are generally the better screen medium for scifi than feature film, having more space to explore the causes and consequences of a fantasy premise. But yeah, I love a spectacle. The setting and soundscape of the new movies are top. Like I can't rember feelings like that in the cinema since Lord of the rings.

It's impossible to adapt, see all previous adaptations. I think you've pretty accurately summed up the shortcomings of the medium for that story. Watch the movie to marvel at the setting brought to life with a nice soundscape, ideally see it on a big screen. If you read the book you'll have some attachment to the characters and universe anyway so pacing and skipped detail shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. Just don't expect it to be perfect. IMO the second part is a bit stronger, maybe because the scope is tighter.

Vollering slowed Vollering's descent in fairness. She didn't have to (shouldn't have?) wait up. I love that even after the fact I couldn't tell you which choices were mistakes for sure. Absolute knife edge stuff.

Fuckin tell me about it. Best subscription I ever had.

Though in fairness to eurosport the highlights show did air at a reasonable time today (though the studio b team leave a lot to be desired).

Wild finish. So many variables it made my head spin. Huge chapeau to all the athletes for making such a great race. But commiserations to Demi, being so clearly the strongest but not winning must be galling.

No highlights show there either though. But thanks for sharing, that's an interesting option for no longer paying discovery for their stupid artificial monopoly. I would put up with paying if the product was actually good 🙄

"bOtH sIdEs". no. absolutely not. Criticise starmer, sure, but it's a joke to even begin to compare him to the decade of enablement by the tories.

You think fear of immigrants and fear of fascism are comparably illegitimate? Oof
