I’m not sure about which metadata is collected by Element, but it might be possible to correlate data, for example through fingerprinting. So it might be possible to know who the parties communicating with each other are and when and with whom they have communicated with, even though they did not provide phone/email.

With Signal, as far as I know and they claim, that is not possible. The only data Signal has is your phone number, when you’ve signed up and when you last logged in.

So with my limited knowledge I’d say Signal is much more private for personal communication. Especially if you’re not tech savvy and take additional measures.

And Lemmy is a social message board. There is no expectation of privacy here.

Element sadly collects metadata.

Props for putting your question in a comment and not the post body!

The only thing that I can think of right now would be a handheld 3D-Scanner. But I’m not even sure what kind of software would be needed to capture/use the information.

the human population is very much reliant on animal sources to sustain itself

Do you have a source for that? What % of the global meat consumption is actually necessary and what is just for pleasure? And don’t get me started on food waste…

what is required to continue existing as a species

Do you mean scale up as a species? We’ve existed for how many thousands of years in a sustainable way?

the distinctive categories of pets and livestock are an unfortunate requirement of our current situation

A requirement for what? You said we need animals to sustain ourselves. What do we need the distinction of pets for?

People who treat ~~pets~~ animals as property are not good people.

FTFY

I’m not a militant vegan, I do make occasional exemptions for ethically sourced animal products. But the distinction between pets and other animals is just hypocritical.

I guess he’s lucky eggs aren’t affordable. Otherwise people might stock up on them for this occasion.

Since they went extinct they really were in dire need of resurrection.

You know what would help? Steam releasing a console. Valve, please just do what you did with the Steam Deck and put it in a box, offer 2-3 variations of specs and refresh them every 3-5 years.

When using a metal spatula carelessly in a teflon coated pan just isn’t hitting hard enough.

If yes, which word(s) and how does it manifest?

(I’ll leave mine as a comment)

(F)OSS 2D floor planner (self.opensource)
submitted 6 months ago by brrt to c/opensource@lemmy.ml

I’m just looking for a simple 2D floor planner that is easy to use and has the ability to show measurements.

The two most recommended open source tools I’ve seen have shortcomings.

Sweet Home 3D:

  • Very 3D centric, which over complicates things.
  • Project was recently acquired/handed off to a company and the iOS version is published by “AI Photo Editor Lab SRL”

draw.io / diagrams.net:

  • Very finicky to set up and create floor plans
  • To display measurements one has to add measurement objects to every wall/object

Does anyone have other recommendations?

I’m looking for a way to keep an eye on open source software I’m using, especially if there are detrimental changes. Like for example when there’s an acquisition (Raivo Authenticator) or the project has not been updated in a long time (potentially posing a security risk).

But I don’t want to have to read about every project, just the ones I’m using.

Anyone got any ideas?

Does anyone know why there are no dedicated Authenticator apps made by for example Proton or Bitwarden?

I’m aware that they have TOTP baked into their password managers but you still need to have at least one separate solution to log into your vault.

Is there a Lemmy app for iPad that has split screen like Narwhal for Reddit had? Post list on the left, content/comments on the right side.
