I can understand patch updates, but what else are the devs doing?

The end. Closure.

I hope Brendon gets all the praise in the world. I wish I could thank every person who helped make this happen.

I'm simply lost for words to describe how I feel.

I'll start.

Two weeks ago I started using Trakt. It's a website/app designed to keep track of shows and movies you've watched, and gives you a list of which episode is available to watch next.

A lot of other similar websites I tried don't have everything cataloged (some done have anime, while sites like Letterboxd only do movies).

Recommendations function is pretty horrible though and they lock basic filtering functionality behind a subscription, but it's still pretty good for what I need it for.

It also gives you stats for your total watch time. Which is now 192 days.. Not including reruns.. So maybe it's double that. I don't know whether to be disappointed in myself or proud.

What you described is called Steelmanning. It is the opposite of strawmanning.

The idea is to concisely repeat your opponents argument with the most charitable interpretation to see if they disagree with anything, for the purposes of ironing out any misconceptions.

People who cannot steelman are either ignorant, or malicious.

She's five years old now and developed an annoying habit within the past six months.

Until now, she's eaten her food by herself when hungry, but she's gotten into the habit of wanting her food to be 'prepared'.

Basically, I'll be working at my computer and she'll come into my computer room, jump up on my desk, sit and meow at me, reach up and touch my leg with her paw, or just sit at the door and stare at me to get my attention.

Then, she'll lead me to her food and ask me to do prepare it. If I pick up the plate and shake it, or simply move her dry kibbles around with my hand, then dinner's ready!

So, evidently, the issue isn't with the food itself. I suspect it's a social habit, but it's driving me a bit nutty.

I've moved the food bowl into my computer room so she can eat and be social with me, but it isn't enough, she still wants me to prep her food.

Sometimes she doesn't even want me to prep her food, simply gesturing to leave the chair will prompt her to begin eating (though sometimes not).

If I ignore her she'll eventually start eating after a few minutes, but it's annoying.

If anyone knows a way to break this habit and encourage my daughter to regain her independence and self-autonomy, I'll be eternally grateful.

Nice to see our debt is being reduced. Meanwhile, the US is struggling to figure out how not to let their economy implode.

People making giant colour stripes for flags are so fucking lame..

At least? I'm convinced they have a moral obligation to do so much more than that.

But that would require us to use Reddit, which I think may be their plan all along.

Don't be surprised when the Lemmy pixels are suddenly overwritten by spez.

Which distro is best?

Hannah Montana OS > mine > yours

I'll be voting yes, if for no other reason than to encourage more referendums.

I think its insane that we need to vote people in to vote for us, who are statistically more likely to be psychopaths. The majority of Australians think weed should be legal, but it still isn't.

Giving people the power to vote on specific issues bypasses the bureaucratic bullshit.

"Oh no, it might open the door to more changes to the constitution" GOOD

For a few years I used dark mode because i thought it was better for your eyes; it isn't.

When in dark mode, you're looking at an overall darker screen, your pupils will dilate to let in more light, which makes everything just outside of focus very blurry, and gives the text a halo effect. A few minutes will be fine, but anything longer is going to make your eyes begin to strain.

When in light mode, your pupils contract to accommodate for the light, this is how our eyes are supposed to work, this is going to be less straining on your eyes. In low light environments, simply turn down the brightness and apply a night light filter.

If you're going to use dark mode regardless, don't use AMOLED unless it's for saving battery. The contrast between bright white and pitch black is the worst combination. Consider using a soft grey, your eyes will thank you.

Old habits die hard, but there's Reddiquette which needs to be revived, and some which needs to die.

Many "golden-age" redditors remember a time when downvoting was reserved for hostility, not a different opinion. For the sake of our growing community I would like to implore everyone to be awesome to each other.

However, this place is not Reddit.

  • We don't measure in bananas here.
  • We don't need to append "edit: typo" to edited posts and comments.
  • if you see something which is worthy of a downvote: down vote and move on! Don't engage with it and feed the algorithm/engament machine so other people are exposed to it when sorting by active.

Please don't let /c/asklemmy become like /r/askreddit, which had half of the front-page posts being the same sex related questions every month.

"Women of reddit, what non sexual thing that guys so makes you horny?"

"What is the sexiest thing you regret doing?"

"How many cocks have you sucked while your cat judges you while waiting for you to feed it?"

It was bullshit.
