If you didn't need to buy a new phone you didn't brick it. The name comes from the device becoming as useful as a brick. IE filling physical space.
But you get to reflect on your life choices when you take 5 minutes to run back to the boss.

No it is not a threat. To tell somebody that you're willing to defend yourself and your rights with violence is only a threat to those who will take them. It's a secondary reaction not a primary action.
