You used "we". Who is "we"? The rest of the discussion implies that "we" means "we Hexbear users".

So here's a better question: how can a White, cisgender, ~~cissexual~~ hererosexual man politically to the right of Bernie Sanders disagree with you without being a bigot or a fascist?

I read "We hate anyone who doesn't agree with us."

Said out loud: "We hate bigots and fascists."
Unsaid but implied in many interactions: "Anyone who doesn't agree with us is a bigot or a fascist."
Combine: "We hate bigots and fascists, by which we mean anyone who doesn't agree with us."
Simplify: "We hate anyone who doesn't agree with us."

I'll quote myself covering the important parts, skip the metaphor, and try to explain in simple English.

Most Hexbears act like spewing insults, trolling, and supporting murderous dictators are blows for righteousness. Until Hexbear culture quits sanctifying insults and trolling, a lot of doors are going to be slammed in your faces.

We hate you because of how you talk. The "call-outs" which are just an excuse to call people names. The posing. The rude pictures. The trolling. The brigading. Reply to any of it and get another avalanche of name-calling and trolling.

A lot of us also hate what you say. But many of us could tolerate what you say if you said it nicely. What's the point of tolerance if you don't tolerate a few things you hate?

You are a type of troll that is very hard to talk into not trolling. And nobody will put up with your trolling for long if they can ban you. So, expect a lot of bans because you are trolls.

If you argued for Marxism but didn't troll and call people names, you would be banned less.

Aye

Check back when we can whitelist individual members who have proven their ability to post in good faith on other instances. Or in ten years to see if Hexbear's culture isn't toxic anymore.

Sure. KiaKaha wrote the whole post to argue that keeping the Uyghur nation in prison camps and banning their culture was the humane solution to keeping the Tarim Basin, conquered 250 years ago by the Manchus in a war against the Dzungar Mongols, from rebelling against the heirs of the heirs of the Manchus.

Not sure if you missed my point or you're just trolling.

I know it's rude to bring up a post from three years ago, but here you go. To Hexbear's collective credit, I couldn't quickly find someone on there supporting the Khmer Rouge.

Anyhow, the real problem is Hexbears' behavior. So many Hexbears spilled into our instance -- this is not your instance, it's our instance -- posting disgusting images and oversized emotes, screaming insults at anyone who doesn't toe their party line ("call outs"), and trolling left, right and center. And I don't think this is the first time, either. There is no reason to believe that the majority of visiting Hexbears are willing to make constructive posts, and that's cause for defederation..

Maybe I wasn't here yet, but I don't remember exploding-heads users coming by the dozen to insult and taunt us on posts on our own instance. That's the behavior that has people up in arms about Hexbear. If instead they just made the occasional post in support of genocide to "own" the USA, I think there would be a lot less support for defederation.

The more I look the more I see a severe clash of values between Hexbear and SIJW (and most Lemmy instances). Most Hexbears act like spewing insults, trolling, and supporting murderous dictators are blows for righteousness. On the other side, those Hexbears come off as juvenile delinquents wearing Red Guard armbands as they spray graffiti, break windows, and take offense at being told off.

Until Hexbear culture quits sanctifying insults and trolling, a lot of doors are going to be slammed in your faces.

Let's tally up the replies to me from Hexbear users.

  • One insult.
  • One taunt.
  • One helpful reply with a little pushback (which might be deserved).
  • One reply expressing frustration with how Hexbear users are treated collectively.
  • One troll.

So a minority of Hexbear users interacted reasonably, while the majority of Hexbear users did not.

I know you personally can't do much about your instance's users making a majority of posts in bad faith, but Hexbear as an instance has a bad reputation across the Fediverse right now because of their behavior.

Thank you for being genuinely helpful, unlike your comrades who insulted and posed.

Looking at their collective behavior in https://sh.itjust.works/post/4188546 I'm for defederating. The sheer enthusiasm for brigading and spewing insults shown there makes me think the instance should be blocked except for a whitelist (or, to be politically correct, allowlist) of permitted users who have shown the ability to contribute more than insults.

Edit: https://sh.itjust.works/post/4245984 as well, where a Hexbear calls an image mocking Xi Jinping personally "racist".
