cause commercial rental is a commitment, if you can't find another company to take over your lease, chances are you have to pay the majority of left over amount + penalty + restoration. Licensor commitments are similar but probably on tech/software licensing, ie. server rentals, Maya/Speedtree licensing agreement for the site, whatever cloud service they use for backup and share stuff, etc. Those at bigger scale aren't paid year to year like your regular indie studio just subscribe to Adobe/Autodesk for app uses per seat.

very typical for people that never even run or host their own server from data center or even cloud service.

live streaming is worse in bandwidth consumption compare to youtube with same resolution input to output. Like youtube can do whatever they like to keep the outgoing low even if you encode according to spec. But streaming with the demand of like 4~6s delay their 2nd pass to try lower the output bitrate is just not gonna be as good as youtube. That's why twitch still don't have 4k stream, they have new beta programs thanks to newer codec on newer GPU, as otherwise their data center is gonna get crushed hard.

Not affiliate link, I happen to check and found it's at this price since last November. I order one and it won't be delivered until Feb 4th.

https://www.amazon.ca/MSI-MEG-342C-QD-OLED/dp/B0C15JDWF4

If anyone has this let me know what things I might need to prepare(other than the size of the monitor, it's huge but I can fit it on my desk after measure the HxDxW. )

If there is any bad experience with it also let me know as I can always cancel it before it's shipped. It seems really highly reviewed monitor where the size is small enough to fit on my desk and is not like 2000+.

I bought a controller after reading some reviews and just offer my opinion here, only after about an hour or 2 playing HiFi Rush, since the game does not support wired DualSense. And following is compare it to DualSense.

  1. The controller feels really light compare to DualSense, it's not a bad thing but if you are using more sturdy cable instead of those soft cable you might feel the cable drag more.
  2. the textile feels okay, not as good as DualSense one but it rough enough and won't slip around. You can feel the dot pattern that helps the controller stay fixed with that extra friction. I am no engineer in this area but if DualSense feel slippery, this will definitely feel better if not too rough. My honest opinion is that maybe it will feel better after use more time with our hand grease etc.
  3. The stick cap have good grip BUT your skin bits will get trapped on it. From the look of it after I test the polling rate and play some of my palm skin are stuck on the left stick cap and it looks really hard to clean off because of the pattern it used. Might need to buy stick cap rubber just to make it easier to clean.
  4. the face buttons are mechanical, as my first controller that has this feature I have to say it does require sometime to get use to compare to majority that use membrane buttons. Your muscle memory will play tricks to you as how far/hard you need to press and would mess up timing for games like HiFi Rush. So even though it's more precise and less prone to sticky button like membrane ones, you do have to test it out to see if it's what you can work with. If you play between PS5 games and the PC games using different type of buttons it might be a bit problematic. But they are really responsive microswitch and doesn't really need much force to push.
  5. trigger is really light, since it's also haul effect, the tension is probably similar to DualSense without the game default status, but since PC game probably don't have standard to utilize those trigger resistance thing, I probably need to find the app to config how heavy the trigger should feel if they offer that option.(as this controller seems to provide trigger vibration, which means it should be able to adjust the trigger resistance. )
  6. It does come with 2 back button you can map to any of the existing buttons. I didn't enable them yet and might use them in the future.
  7. There are no windows app to do the settings. There are short cut keys to allow you to switch between different modes or bind buttons but more detailed settings does require the phone app.
  8. The controller come with latest firmware already. No 1000hz polling rate yet. It's pretty consistent and close to 500Hz when I use the gamepadla test.
  9. The LED on the controller home button is really bright, if you like to play in the dark it's gonna be a bit distracting. I will probably use a sticker to reduce it's intensity. You do need the led to show you what status it's in when your try to pairing and use with phone app or other device, like switch, so removing the led is not a good idea. But I am going to use this controller mostly wired so I guess I can tape it.

Things to look out for?

  • how long it actually last as the sensor don't drift doesn't mean the springs etc won't degrade.
  • as mentioned in many reviews, the dpads are not as good. if you play fighting game with a pad this is not for you.(very easy to miss diagonal) I don't play fighting games on a gamepad so I am fine with it.
  • connector quality, this is also something that could get worse over time, and won't know it until it starts to break. But from initial use, it does hold the USB C quite firm and well.

Well look at China back paddle again, where is that "evidence" some troll mentioned about and psychology class 101 blah blah. This is so predictable just like the western "think for the kids" policy changes without any long term thinking or any science backing that decision. (like some US states pushing for abstinent for sex ed instead of safe sex and then cost a lot more social or politically cause unwanted baby or black market abortion.)

For any one that tries to hail that and ban mtx, gacha, season pass, but do not put more energy on pushing legislation to ban lottery, casino, mall gacha eggs, trading cards, kinder eggs or McDonald kid's meal collectables, you are a hypocrite.

We need more education on math(probability and game theory), sales strategy and involved psychology tricks( FOMO, door in the face, etc), financial/budgeting literacy and planning like you teach how to eat healthy and exercise, as they affect your everyday life. We can push for things that collect data for strange spending behavior(enforced if they play those gacha/mtx/online casino) and catch vulnerable people that are prone to become gambling addicts and direct them to therapy and bar them from more spending if cross a threshold(say $500/month) defined by law or regulation to protect their finance(play.com in Canada has something similar if I remember). Well, until the psychologist and bank says okay as we can't stop retirees to burn their fun allowance for whatever they like, like we can't stop you from buying collector edition and then they sit somewhere collecting dust. Or, you know, go to arcade burn like 100 dollars and then your ticket only trades for toys you can buy at dollar store for maybe 10 bucks total. Some people burn that money for the experience knowing fully well they won't make a return, and are not addicts.

And for the trolls, I don't care about the up/down votes anywhere, feel free to waste your time do that.

The source interview section to the time stamp: https://youtu.be/4b_o5ueZRF0?si=IZzMan9sVQOV4Qq6&t=4797

Main short comings(for the parts I know and working with):

  • There are many inter-connected features that works best if you use them together, so for example, if you want to use Lumen but don't want to use Nanite you can, but the performance would be worse since the virtual texture part of rendering lumen scene is a lot more efficient when you use Nanite geo. Similar with VSM.
  • If you upgrade project from old UE4, there is A LOT you need to touch on. It's like a ticket generator if you upgrade.(but yeah, do a cross gen engine upgrade would do that for you.)
  • TSR(their temporal super resolution upscaler) still not really working out of the box and most I know just use FSR/DLSS/XeSS
  • many features are moving target BUT was talking point during recent releases. ie. PCG, Substrate, Smart Object, World Partition(specifically the Data Layer part), even VSM just out of beta since 5.2(most current released UE5 games using version <= 5.1, Immortals of Aveum would be the first to upgrade to 5.2 as far as I know.)
  • because of the above point, the CVars to control features can be changed/deprecated when a new release goes out. So you can't "decide" your quality presets if you are still banking on upgrades.

Let me talk about the 2 things you mentioned:

  • networking, this part is actually the "better" side, it's a bit harder cause since UE4.26 it gets a lot of Fortnite's improvement into UE-main. So if you are doing shooter even with a lot of players it's actually better than most other engine on the market. But if you want to do things like say, fighting game or decouple input/game thread for lower latency, or if you have your own "space ship battle" with custom physics body not a humanoid capsule. Then you have to implement your stuff.(by ref how CharacterMovementComponent is implemented.)
  • Physics, many people talk shit about ChaosPhysics, while it might not be as good as some other current industry standards for single player game, it will change the landscape of multiplayer game once it's performance is up to par. The reason is ChaosPhysics is designed with networking in mind. So, yeah, if your game is player interact destruction heavy(ie. big enough debris don't disappear), you need a more expensive server to run. There are less physics based multiplayer game cause the old implementations are all "bad". (just see what Battlefield or Halo has done for the past 2 decades, the slight desync and player/vehicle fly to the moon is staple of bad implementation.)

So, with the PS Plus discussion, I already letting my sub expire at end of year, thinking about that I have to setup back-up sync process on my PS5->USB->PC. To my surprise, that option is no longer available on PS5 games(only PS4 title, not upgraded version, still have that option.)

The price hike is there "because they can", Sony even blatantly shows on the console they can let you save individual save to USB for PS4 games BUT not PS5 games. As a long time sub this double whammy also lead me to the decision that I will no longer buy any cross platform release on PS5.

  • PS5 will be left to play only the Sony exclusives from developer that I still care about. I will take the risk for not having save backups.
  • I will never pay for any online tax on any platform for multiplayer and cloud saves. (already dropped live during XBox 360 and never paid for Nintendo Online.)
  • I will keep my PS5 not updated after my current sub expires and wait for hack/jailbreaks so I can back up my save files.

Honestly it saddens me cause from now on every time my favorite developers release a game I have to remind myself about all the above. I am the type of fanatic that sometimes buys multiple copies of games on different platforms just to give devs I love more money. So with this change of event, I probably need to get a Xbox just to buy some future indie games in the $20~30 range instead of buying on PS4/PC.

Good job Sony, you cornered me really well, thanks.

Mark my word, once Gabe pass it's gonna be very very different. We have very different things to worried about, like climate change, but on software side and tech we shouldn't rely on monopolies. Valve was kept in that state because all the competition didn't actually put up a fight worth extra investment. The windows store pushed valve to develop SteamOS and Proton, they also back off on some revenue split policy because of EGS's deals. (Let's be honest, not all players care about which launcher they use, as long as they get better deals and can play the game they want.)

And to my experience, Steam's recent years' updates to store/client are not something I like as well.

  • I don't like the gamification of sales event etc.
  • I don't like the new unlimited scroll type, they backed off a bit and become like 3 pages long until you hit the top/popular/sales part.
  • I also don't like some of the UI changes(ie the downloads/library mixed together and not separate item)
  • I hated the auto start live streaming thing, if there is option to turn off that please let me know.

For EGS,

  • their search sucks
  • library page sucks, you can't really organize your free games/purchased games etc.
  • auto updates are pretty on par so that's okay.
  • their friends/etc also sucks.(not that I care much but at least it's far worse than steam one.)
  • I like that they adopted Nintendo's gold coin reward type to encourage consumer to purchase there.
  • games from other big publisher usually do require install their clients as well, which sucks. (it's similar on steam as well.)

I made a video to help Unity devs quickly navigate things before they make decisions. Watch is not necessary I copy paste my video description below with all the links I shown in video. If you like to hear my thoughts or opinion then watch I don't mind, I don't use youtube video to make a living.

This is not tutorial video, also not video to tell you to use UE. It is a video that tell you the information you might need to start and make a decision for yourself. There are plenty of other better tutorial content creator than me, feel free to search for those.

It's because Nintendo still haven't implement server client networking and host their own dedicated servers. It's why people paid Nintendo Online to play multiplayer Nintendo games are getting scammed.(even Capcom or EA/Epic did batter job on switch then Nintendo.)

That's why you get no real online plays, blame Nintendo's internal policy, not networking complexity.

I don't like the down vote button so I will spare you with that. Yes, they can still put it on their resume but what the employer did is scumbag move cause translation is a hard job to do well and good translator can make good money doing various job. In creative industry, credit listed is a big thing for anyone that starting out. If not so, why does movie, anime, game that have those long scrolling opening/ending credit?( A xxxxx Film, Directed by xxxxx, Produced by xxxxx.) For a video game, there is no "screen time" limit like movie/anime do, so not including the team and only the execs is like slapping those that worked really hard for the project to make it a better game.

We all know that bug where you join but stuck as spectator right? Usually when that happened and you quit, you can still do other queue(don't know if this is changed or not).

Today, I queue 2s/3s at the same time but stuck in spectator view with out any interface/ball or other players.(can't even bring up score board, can quick chat but it prints the content without YOU: in front.) When I wait for like almost 1 mins, I bring up the menu and see the Leave Game button.(not the usual red Abandon Match.) So I pressed and go back to main menu, queue a different one in free play to then see there are no search status. Later it reflects in the queue menu that I got a temp ban for 5 mins in both casual and competitive/extra queue.

Unfortunately I didn't remember to record this. So yo guys might need to watch out when queuing.

Now that the summer school also finished, we would probably have way worse solo queue quality overall. I guess I should start playing 1s until September school resumes.

And, please remember to report bad behavior, once enough reports sends in, then toxic accounts would be flagged and probably trigger review/autoban. If no one does it, then it will just keep running rampant. Yes, even report the guy idling on opponent team or own goal.

[-] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

yo, that's not how the policy work. The increase is to stop extra money pumping into market because if you try to borrow and do stuff, then the cost is higher, ANY borrowing. (so business, house, car, etc. )

ie. if you are selling apple using borrowed money because the revenue-cost is positive enough to do it, interest rate increase will help stop you buying more apple(for resale) down the road. "but I can just offset the cost to consumer that buys my apple, right?" Yes you could but for merchant that does not need to borrow money to do it they have an edge over you. So while short term you will see people jack up price of apple to cover their bottom line, eventually, there is a point they can't get price up anymore to cover cause people will switch to buy orange instead. So people will do less risky business that involves borrowing money. And consumer just pick whatever they can afford. So if there is a trend that apple is too expensive, it will stick and lag behind, it affects all the way to produce as well and some apple selling business will close, and farm would cut production if people are not buying, then if this goes on longer, they will have to lower the price to recoup the money compare to losing everything. And people that originally think borrowing money to invest in apple will think hard(if they have good advisor), thus not much money in this "apple" market. Interest rate increase affects almost all industry, but the price coming down, to historical trend of inflation, will lag behind and are not immediately visible.

That's also why too few competition in grocery is bad cause you have to eat, for business that people have no choice but had to buy/use to survive, they should be regulated. ( Just imagine if your provincial water supply is a public traded company. )

17 games losing streak after that is.(I marked my id when the title says win, but I am on the losing side) A gentle reminder to myself and my sleep hours, you can get your useless rocket pass level next day and will play better while well rested.

It's casual so all fun and giggle, but how many would trap yourself chasing for that last game to push reward to next level and then entering that death downward spiral.

It's a teddit link so not contribute to reddit at all.

A fairly good read if you are interested on why better player can cover the worse player even without fancy mechanics. The "I can hang with [insert higher rank] tm8s" are mostly an illusion, if you can truly see through that and realize which part you need to improve, then it really opens up your way to rank up.

I pretty much lose all the placements, then fortunate enough someone thinks that we mashed well, then win streak almost back to Champ. (1 point left to div up to Champ, 1074 atm.)

on my placement matches there are so many players feels like they are like 2 ranks above me at least. I don't know if that's actually a thing but it sure does feel like psyonix did address the 2s MMR drift issue. (which is a good thing. )
