I think this would be the only way. It would be interesting to knowing how much traffic or requests this instance gets to see if its a real problem. Server admins could implement stricter rate limiting for non-members if it becomes an issue. They could even likely implement something that could allow them to sort out which of their members are making the most requests to have some visibility. I don't believe this is something that is possible today from within platform anyway.

There's really two issues here:

  1. If users are ok and even aware that their public conversations are certainly going to be picked up and used for future models
  2. Are the lemmy instance admins ok with potentially half of their traffic going to bots that are hoarding and scrapping the data causing additional load on the servers.

Maybe @[email protected] would be open to share some insights regarding to the amount of requests is received per month and how much resources its taking

I'm curious to get all of your thoughts on this. It's no secret that AI has been growing quite exponentially over the last year. I feel that new models are being released almost every other day. With that said many of these models need a tremendous amount of data to train on. It's no secret that reddit sells its users interaction to the highest bidder. This was partially the reason why they made the changes to the API limits that got many of us to move to the fediverse in the first place.

My question is how does everyone feel with knowing that multi-billion dollar companies as scraping this instance and the others, creating extra load on the servers for nothing more than to be able to profit from it?

What can be done to continue providing a free, open network to users but prevent those who are only looking to profit from the data?

edit: fixed title typo

Looks interesting. Love seeing more coming out from this space

they could cut to a commercial and come back when they are about to complete

The Olympics have always done a great job at gathering the best athletes around the world to compete for gold. It's easy to not fully grasp just how great these athletes are which is why I'd love to see them throw in the average person into every competition (with the exception to those that can get people seriously hurt) and have those people compete with the worlds best.

This person would need to accept beforehand that there would be no chance for them but instead help showcase the difference. Hell, they could even be given participation medals.

Thoughts?

I’ve been looking at gitea because of its gitops capabilities that seem to be pretty much on par with github actions. Do you know if forgejo has something similar? There seems to be a lack of documentation in that area. This has been my only reason for not moving to forgejo but im hoping im wrong and just missed some documentation.

EDIT: Thank you all who provided some additional insights that I was missing. I'll take the leap and give forgejo a try!

I've been out of the loop but when I hear that Boeing had built and was launching a spacecraft I immediately knew there was going to be problem. If they have a document history of cutting corners on their aircraft, what would make people think this would be any different.

I hope the astronauts can make it back without incident but knowing Boeing they might use the reentry as an opportunity to "disappear" the whiteness

Yes Taiwan. Thanks for the heads up

Currently, a pair of powerful, massive earthquakes has just occurred. The first one measured a magnitude of 7.5, followed by a 7.4 magnitude aftershock moments later. Numerous reports indicate strong to violent shaking, with multiple buildings swaying back and forth. Additionally, multiple buildings have collapsed. Tsunami warnings and sirens have been activated, sounding off an emergency warning and urging residents to evacuate immediately.

Came across this guide and figured I'd share. Will be testing this out later this week.

Hey all,

Figured I'd post here and at the same time add some extra content to this community.

I came across cloudpanel.io and while it looks great I can't figure out how they make money and can continue to be free.

Anyone use this panel and care to share their thoughts?

With the latest announcement regarding google allegedly paying reddit 60million per year for access to user created content to train their AI, what is stopping companies from using the freely available information on the lemmyverse to do it for free?

How does everyone feel about the likelihood of this already happening and should something be done about it?

Power has yet to be invented. Once your laptop dies it becomes uselesss. Batteries deteriorate over time and without the latest security patches you'll definitely get infected sooner rather than later.

If you were sent back to the roman era and could only bring a backpack of goods. What would you bring?

When did you encounter this issue? I know there were some issues yesterday that TheDude fixed. May have been related to that. I would recommend trying again. Otherwise can you share what the size of the image you are trying to upload?

there is a 1inch inwards recess

[–] Nicarlo 1 points 10 months ago

Yes but I could not find any that are recessed. The closest thing that I found was this https://www.amazon.com.au/Smart-things-Flush-Mounted-Connection-sCh-12W-8pin-1-0A/dp/B082B7RZ5H but I can't find something similar in Canada or USA

This is what I was thinking of as well. In the picture i included in the original post I have a red rectangle block. This is where I intend to mount the tablets. This means that I don't have all that much space to add this hub behind it.

Hey all,

I'm looking to wallmount my Samsung Tab4 tablet but can't seem to find the right components to do it.

I already have an recessed plug for power (see image below) but cannot find anything small enough to plug in and power up my tablet.

I already figured out that I would need to purchase a slim flat micro usb cable to power up the tablet and I plan on 3d printing the wall mount. The only thing that I have not yet been able to find is a usb adapter that is small enough to fit in this recessed area. Anyone have any suggestions?

Out of curiosity. For starters I'm a bit of both

Hey all,

New here.

I have a pair of Baofeng uv-5r with an extended antenna and they have worked really well for me. Anything better for that size out there?
