Aight, so, we got cities/metropolitan areas, then we have the outer edge of cities called suburbs (could also be referred to as towns), then we got further out areas, which are rural, which have a lot of agriculture and wilderness.

"Small" and "rural" are used as qualifying adjectives, and typically compound. Rural: generally far from near by cities, lots of wilderness/agriculture around. Small: not a lot of residents or amenities.

Village is not a term that is commonly used, at least not where I'm from (midwest).

Your village is our small rural town: low population density, lots of wilderness/agriculture, not a lot of buildings.

Everyone goes at their own pace. I took 5 years to graduate college, now I'm in my 5th year of graduate school, and I'm nowhere close to graduating. Meanwhile, many of the people I started graduate school with are defending their theses. It's hard for me not to feel left behind.

Everyone has their own hurtles they have to deal with. Cut yourself some slack. You're in college, trying to learn about difficult topics that others won't even attempt because they think they're too hard.

If you don't believe in yourself, believe in the Morti that believes in you.

The act of throwing a person out of a window!

Wait... There's already a word for that...

Defenestration

Thanks! That's really helpful!

That makes a lot of sense! Can you give some examples?

Thanks for the insight! I like to learn languages, so learning the local language is definitely part of my plan. It's nice to hear that if I try to speak with someone in their local language, they'll be receptive!

Hello, Lemmy,

I'm a US citizen, and I've lived in the US for my entire life. Due to recent political changes, I'm interested in living in Europe. There are some things I like about living in the US, and some things I dislike. I want to know how life in Europe compares to my experience.

Things I like:

  • Independent life style
  • People are friendlier in the US (or so I've heard from European friends)

Things I dislike:

  • Car dependence (I hate the US auto industry)
  • Lack of social policies that distribute wealth and decommodification of necessities (health care, public transit, pharmaceuticals, food, etc.)
  • Lack of climate friendly policies
  • Credentials are locked behind a huge pricetag for education
  • Recent anti-intellectualism
  • Mostly a lot of political things

If you have questions for me, just ask! Literally any details you can share about life are helpful, even down the the miniscule day-to-day goings on!

Thanks in advance!

It has the highest likelihood to result in death, that's for sure

Morti means "of death" in Latin. I guess I'm going to die of death...

For all those asking, "Who cares?" I care. Many others care. Not necessarily because "famous person does thing," but because Linux is reaching wider audiences.

I think Linux is a fantastic operating system. I imagine, if you're partaking in this community, you agree with me. I imagine you'd also agree that reaching higher percentages of the market share would be nice. More people adopting Linux, and trusted personalities adopting and showing off Linux, means it reaches a wider audience and more people may choose to use Linux.

I don't care about famous people or what they do. I care about Linux. If more people use Linux, I'm happy. Famous people essentially advertising their use of Linux only serves to increase its popularity.

Article says he used it to help plan the attack. Poorly worded title, but the generative AI is related.

I was going for the joke:

Elon Musk's (e)X is leaving San Francisco
