I'm just glad both hands are on the phone...but yeah, I'd be moving somewhere else or something.

Honestly, I don't believe its fair to say "all you can eat" unless its true. Otherwise, you should put some type of detailed limit.

But attempts must have been made and probably continue.

An attempt was made to get people to come, I believe there was some miscommunication.

Introduction (lemmy.world)
submitted 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Purpose: To share pro-consumer products and service that truly have the forethought of the consumer first. Such as easy of use/setup, privacy & security, fair pricing and just generally good pro-consumer business practices.

Goal: To develop a community that will host a list of products/services that you may be in the market for. Hopefully, it will make the buying decision a little easier and thus promoting actual great things.

I am only one person, I don't have a bunch of free time but I will be working on putting together posts when possible. Please feel free to add things here with the rules and this introduction in mind.

This goes over how AI is scraping public data online, what that means and a few options to prevent it.

I find this mildly infuriating, I only use Windows for work, I even personally purchased Windows 11. Local account and disabled as much as I could. I personally do not like Windows or Windows in general.

Well, now I do an update and they throw this up like I need to walk thru these steps (again). Not even a "Skip"/"Don't remind me again". Windows is not what it used to be and after disabling half the Microsoft stuff I'd expect not to be bothered again. It's really a built in ad more then anything.

Elon Musk has tried to re-brand PayPal as "X" years ago and was shot down due to focus groups stating it reminded them of adult websites.

Thiel and PayPal co-founder Max Levchin plotted a coup against Musk while he was on his first vacation in years. The board fired Musk as CEO in September 2000 and replaced him with Thiel. Thiel formally changed the name of the combined company to PayPal in 2001.

I think he deserves some credit for making Mastodon and Lemmy more popular at least.

If they treat others bad. Such as waitresses, their friends & family, co-workers etc.

Instantly no respect, zero tolerance.

Man, you even cleared your own comments...

Not a bad idea but there are flaws and this also doesn't seem to address the issue of pricing or availability.

  • So you can remove the battery, will you be able to buy one.
  • They could prevent 3rd parties from making batteries that work.
  • They could just not sell battery replacements.
  • They could add more parts needed, like seals, screws that strip too easily, that annoying sticky tape etc.

From the release notes: "This version fixes the problem of comment context not loading properly. It also fixes a couple other bugs."

Could not be stated any better.

It sucks but there will always be some labor intensive queries to execute. Although, it can be limited and restricted which I'm sure they are already on top of it. Such as caching and security control put in place to make limits like "this type of request from this IP can only happen 1x per hour" or something along those lines.

If I had to guess, without looking into the source code yet and limited information provided I'd assuming it's mass account creation, image uploading and/or exploiting how the instant syncs with the fediverse. It's most certainly something that can be mostly prevented once the holes are made and then patched.

Also, I'm sure in the future something more efficient than SQL will be used.

Great call-out! Probably because most over 500 can't allow exfiltration of data for security (banks, gov, corp secrets). From my understanding most, if not all, AI data sets are built from our data.

Google and OpenAI was caught (or opening saying) using web spiders for AI datasets, crawling public data from Wikipedia, Facebook, Reddit and more. Google even using data from Google Assistant and other opt-in data "to improve their products".

I haven't looked into Microsoft but they are also using OpenAI as they are a major investor for OpenAI.

allegations that Marta removed an individual under the age of 14, who was not a family member, without obtaining parental consent and subsequently confined them.

The most information I've found so far, gonna see later whats public record. But regardless, kidnapped a child by no parent consent and confined them. https://www.fresherslive.com/latest/articles/fabian-marta-arrested-why-was-fabian-marta-arrested-what-did-fabian-marta-do-1555158282
