I hear the big downside with Usenet is availability of old or obscure content. Not sure how true this is though as I've never used Usenet myself.

Man if we could target 10% of the hate priests get for that towards teachers doing the same thing we might actually be able to protect most children from abuse.

I was actually talking to someone that works in advertising and for big companies this is unlikely. Pepsi for example pays a lot for the guarntee that their product ads won't appear near posts they don't want them to. Since Lemmy advertising would only be through regular posts where they have no control over this, they likely wouldn't risk the potential detriment to brand perception.

Now this can change if the potential reach of Lemmy is big enough but that size will be different for each company.

So maybe more weight should be put on comment count? Much harder to fake those.

That's such a hilariously bad metric for detecting a bot network too. It wouldn't even work to detect a real one, so all that policy ever did was annoy real users.

Doesn't need to be publicly traded to have those issues.

I'm pretty sure it actually does stand for that in lemmy.ml's case at least.

This is huge, would love to see any other info on this.

But it's not more affordable education? It's just funneling federal dollars into the education industry, which is such blatant corruption I don't get why anyone was ever for it. If you want to make education more affordable then start by.. reducing the cost of education?

I think another big thing to consider is that we need to have a discussion thread first before people can cast their vote. A lot of people in this thread have already voted before hearing any arguments other than the OP, which heavily skews the vote in favor of OP. If we have a discussion thread for a few days first and get all the discussion out of the way we can then have a vote after and people can go back and read all the arguments made before voting.

Bethesda jank is what brought us the Giant Space Program in Skyrim so I'm definitely fine with some jank. They've also said it's the least buggy Bethesda game they've made. It feels like you're just picking bad points to shit on the game.
