I think it should be 2028, although it’s probalbly gonna be 2027.

To be honest, I’m a happy ps5 owner, but I could almost just be a happy ps4 owner as it feels that the crazy next-gen games (current games in fact) haven’t arrived yet.

I don’t need better graphics all the time, as we’ve already reached a crazy detail level, but then why would we need a new console every 7-8 years?

Also, if disc drives are really becoming a thing of the past, I might really just jump to an entry level Linux PC. The only thing which would scare me is how much settings you have on pc compared to Playstation.

As long as you have a way to know if it’s a Signal to whatsapp conversation, I don’t see the problem.

If you only want to talk to Signal users, you could just deactivate the interooerability option.

It’s surprising that games are getting cheaper compared to the cost of living. If you take into consideration the fact that games are becoming more expensive to produce, I really don’t understand it.

Gaming is way cheaper for me than it was during the ps2 or ps3 era.

Still, I don’t want games to become more and more ambitious and cost more and more. So, if I get GTA6, it’s gonna be at a reasonable price, maybe even second hand since I don’t need to directly support Rockstar.

Give me real ps5 games first.

To be honest, I’m a happy ps5 owner, but I feel like I have only played 2-3 games which aren’t available on ps4.

These 3 are FFVII Rebirth, Dead Space and Astro’s Playroom. I’m almost certain these games could have been lightly downgraded to run on the previous generation.

I feel like the technology isn’t what’s holding games back as Last of Us 2 is still the most beautiful game I’ve played and it’s getting old.

That sounds really interesting. I didn’t know about Volla, but dual booting might be the way to go.

That's a really good start thanks, but I'm really looking for something which would group all the messages with my ex's email adress, no matter the topic.

Because with this extansion, it's still related to the topic of the email.

I’m sorry to judge you, but I don’t think a 2 year old should be using a computer.

I think it’s important for kids to learn how to really use a computer (instead of just a smartphone), but it’s mostly important to show them they can have fun away from screens.

I’m gonna check this, thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’m a happy Thunderbird user but I miss one feature.

Is there a way to have emails organized a bit like a Whatsapp/Signal conversation?

What I mean is that I would want to have the conversations sorted by the person you’re interacting with, no matter the topic and being able to just scroll up and down a conversation.

I have a lot of back and forth between my ex, her lawyer and mine and this feature would make things way easier if it exists.

Right now my conversations are already grouped under one discussion, but I still have to go to the sent emails to check what I’ve answered in the past..

I understand what you’re saying and I guess it’s true that some people are just finding excuses.

But I think you also lack some empathy towards everyone ´s user’s case.

Personnaly, switching fully to Linux was pretty easy as 99% of my gaming is being done on Playstation.

On my playstation 5 I can know for sure that I can play every game I fancy.

Why am I gaming on consoles? Mostly because it involves no tinkering.

So, despite having gotten rid of Windows a while ago, I would easily give up if I had to tinker to get a game running.

I know that gaming on Linux as never been so easy, but gaming on PC (windows or linux) looks already too difficult for some people with all the requirements.

I might jump to a Linux gaming rig in the future, but I can also understand why some people are choosing an easy path.

Netflix works flawlessly on Fedora. No streaming problem except with Nba basketball.

I also don’t really care about more people switching to Linux, except for the fact that it’s gonna force developers to make their games run on Linux.

There’ll also be some downsides with more people using linux, like more viruses..

In a way, I’d focus more on the fact that it would be cool if more people used Linux on phones instead of ios/Android. That could make it easier to run at one point..

I’m a separated dad with a demanding job and a fiancé. I only have the kids when I’m not working but I want to be fully available for them.

Recently, I’ve noticed that it would be difficult for me to play more than a story/ambiance game (next one is gonna be either Dead Space Remake or Aliens Dark Descent) and forever playable game (Gran Turismo 7 since its launch).

If I played more games with the time I have, I would forget the story or the controls. I haven’t tried but I’m pretty sure of it.

The problem with such a system is that I’m almost a aralyzed when I have to chose which story/ambiance game I’m gonna play.

So what’s your system and what are your time limitations?

Hi everyone!

I’ve almost entirely degoogled my life, except for Youtube.

Here are my center of interests and some channels I follow:

  • Linux: The Linux Experiment, Tech Hut
  • Basketball: NBA, Andy Hoops, Heat Check, Jonny Arnett, BasketNews
  • Cars: Throttle House, Everyday Driver, Car and Driver
  • Console Gaming: GamingBolt, IGN
  • Tech: Linus Tech Tips, Techquickie

Concerning Linux, it has been easy to find alternatives to YouTube as The Linux Experiment is on PeerTube and I can support him for 1$ a month Through Patreon.

Tech Hut is on Odysee so I could watch his videos here and support him through Buy Me A Coffee or something similar if I wanted to.

I know I could watch everything from the Linus Tech Tips on Floatplane but 5$ a month is a bit too expensive.

Do you have any suggestions about anyone producing similar content to what I’ve described above (Basketball, Console Gaming, Cars and Tech) that I could watch on a YouTube alternative?

I don’t mind paying 1-2$ a month for a channel I enjoy but I can’t pay more for now 😇

Hi everyone,

I run a Surface Go 1 with Fedora Workstation on it and with the Surface Kernel installed in order to improve bluetooth.

Sadly, lately, it ain't improving anything and my Surface Go just seems to have lost its bluetooth connectivity as it only manages to connect to my Sony portable speaker.

My work iPhone and my Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse aren't detected/can't detect my Surface Go, but I can still send files through LocalSend (I guess it's not using bluetooth).

As I'm getting tired of these problems, if I don't find a quick solution, I'm looking at getting a wired mouse or a bluetooth dongle.

Since I already have my bluetooth mouse, a dongle would be practical but I'd want to be sure that I won't run into bluetooth problems with it anymore.

I don't know if it changes everything, but my Surface Go is almost always linked to an USB-C screen from Philips that I'm using as an USB hub. So the dongle would be on it and I'd use the trackpad when I'm not in front of that screen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi everyone!

I’m new to the Waydroid user community as I’ve just started using it today.

My goal was to use it to listen to Tidal instead of the web browser since I had to log in every time.

For now it works pretty well even if it ain’t perfect.

I was wondering what other people are doing with Waydroid on Linux as there might be an use I haven’t thought about 😇

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a happy user of Fedora Workstation since Fedora 36 on my Surface Go 1.

I really enjoy Gnome and everything is set up the way I want to.

Since I was really happy with my setup I just wanted to be able to replicate it easily through Clonezilla so that I could port it on any future computer I’d get.

Sadly, even with the help of really helpful and knowledgeable users on Lemmy, it hasn’t worked (https://sh.itjust.works/post/25963065).

So now I’m left wondering if there could be a distribution that I’d enjoy and which would be easy to deploy on another computer as I’d hate to have to configure everything on every computer I’d get.

I love Gnome but I wouldn’t be against trying something else if necessary.

What distribution could meet my needs?

Hi everyone,

I have a finely tuned Fedora 40 image that I cloned using Clonezilla (see: https://sh.itjust.works/post/25762756)

I wanted to deploy it on my old Acer Aspire 5737z but it won’t boot. It’s just displaying a — on a black screen for hours.

I’m not so knowledgeable but I guess it means I would have to reinstall the GRUB or whatever.

I’ve booted into my Fedora Live USB and tried the lsblk command people were talking about on the web (I don’t understand the terminal). Here's the result.

I think the SDA disk is the one I would like to boot from.

Can anyone help me understand what I have to do 😇🙏

Hi everyone!

For a while, I've been using the surface kernel for my Surface Go using Fedora 40. The other day I tried to clone my installation with Clonezilla to put it on another old computer I had lying around.

It didn't work and I have a suspicion that it didn't because of the surface kernel so I'm trying to use the stock kernel instead.

After a few modifications, usinge uname -a, this is the output I get: Linux surface-go-fedora-de-guillaume 6.10.10-200.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Sep 12 18:26:09 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux

When using uname -mrs, this is the output I get: Linux 6.10.10-200.fc40.x86_64 x86_64

Can someone with more knowledge than me confirm that everything is back to stock form as I don't know if the SMP PREEMPT thing shoud be there? Doe's anyone know if the Surface Kernel is probably what prevented me from cloning my installation and putting it on another computer?

Hi everyone,

First of all, I know WhatsApp doesn’t belong to Google so I’m technically in the wrong community.

Still I think getting rid of Facebook is part of the same movement.

I’ve been using Threema (and Signal/SMS a little bit) for years with all my close contacts, but I can’t fully get rid of WhatsApp as I’m part of some groups where I can’t convince/force everyone to move to Threema.

Because I was still on WhatsApp, a lot of people outside of the necessary groups thought it was okay to contact me on WhatsApp.

I had looked into ways of blocking everyone except these essential groups, but I couldn’t find anything on the web.

Now I think I’ve found the solution to prevent people outside of these necessary WhatsApp groups to write to me on WhatsApp. I had never heard of it before yesterday, but you can download a WhatsApp Business app which lets you send automated answers when people are writing to you.

So I basically just created an automated answer telling people that I’m using Threema/Signal/Sms and that I won’t answer on WhatsApp. Now I don’t have to write long messages telling people to please write to me on another app (and then these people keep writing on WhatsApp of course). So now it’s make the effort or leave me alone 😅

I still plan in ditching WhatsApp for good at one point, but it seems like a good temporary solution and, since I hadn’t found anyone suggesting this idea, I thought I would share it here to help people who have the same problem.

Hi everyone!

A few days ago, I had a problem while trying to run KDE and Gnome as DE on Fedora 40. That problem was solved (see crosspost), but now, I can't update Fedora anymore as it says "the transaction did not complete" and I can't install or uninstall anything as it says I don't have space on my disk (which is not true).

Does anyone have an idea what to do?

Edit: apparently dnf clean and dnf clean all solved the problem, so thank you everyone as I was kind of panicking when I thought about all the work involved into having my perfect install again.

Hi everyone!

Today I tried to install KDE alongside Gnome to give it a try on Fedora on something else than a virtual machine.

For a reason I can't understand, the terminal couldn't finish the installation of KDE as something failed. Despite all of this, all the KDE apps were installed and Plasma is appearing as an option on the login screen under Gnome and Gnome Classic. Still I couldn't launch KDE plasma and nothing was happening after typing my login.

I took it as a sign that KDE isn't for me, especially because I'm 99% happy with Gnome.

So I removed KDE via the terminal and the remaining apps via the software center. Sadly, there is one app called "Centre de bienvenue" or "Welcome center" from KDE that I can't remove. Nothing is happening when I try removing it.

I tried removing it via the terminal, but when I type "dnf list installed" I can't find it as there are too many packages. Could anyone help me?

I also tried « dnf list installed » with the words « welcome », « bienvenue », « kde » and « plasma ».

Hi everyone!

I love Thunderbird and I'm really happy with it.

It's the flatpak version and, sadly, it doesn't allow me to open attachments. When I click on the file, it brings me to a screen where it proposes to use the system handler to open the file and then nothing happens.

Apparently, this is a common issue related to flatpak and its permissions, so I tried to circumvent it by trying to open documents inside Thunderbird (as I remember Thunderbird being able to open PDFs) but it didn't work as it's only telling me that Firefox is already running.

Does anyone know a workaround as for now it forces me to save documents before being able to open them?

Edit: it was solved by switching to the official Flatpak and not the Fedora provided one
