I've seen on here a few times that the general consensus is to stick with XFX/Sapphire/PowerColor and to avoid Gigabyte/Asus/MSI. Where does ASRock fall into that split? I'm in the market for a 7800xt. Of all those preferable board partners does one stick out as being better, or can't really lose as long as it's not one of the "bad" group?

ASRock AQUA 7900 XTX is actually the fastest, highest power model this gen. Each partner puts more or less effort into each model they put out. Sometimes you get an extruded aluminum brick and a piddly VRM, sometimes you get 2kg bricks and 1000A of power.

I've got ASRock Phantom Gaming 7800xt, it's fine. No premium feel to it and there's nothing in the box but the card itself but it's decent in every respect - quiet, cool enough (hotspot 85° under stress-test overclocked, 75° at stock), some RGB, solid build - there's really nothing to gripe about

Which is fine by me! Doesn't need to be a stellar standout as long as it works well. Thanks.

I would avoid Asrock at all costs

I have 2 Asrock 6800XT Taichi X, both are excellent cards. I've physically seen the 7900XTX Phantom Gaming PCB, and it's designed similar to my 6800XT, which is to say excellent except maybe the lack of fuses if you care.

Thanks for all your input guys. I ended up going with the PC Hellhound!

My Phantom Gaming 6800xt has been with me since release of the series and has been reliable. That being said I did take the heatsink apart repaste the GPU and tighten the screws to my liking. This dropped hotspot temps 10c alone. It wasn’t my first choice for brand but I got it at MSRP at the time.

I did the same with my 6900xt AND undervolted it. Now my 3700X is limiting games so much that 6900xt basically never gets out of zero fan mode.
