Just came here from reddit, making my first post. I played NMS last year for about 40hrs then kind of lost interest. Starfield looks a lot like NMS, but with a lot more content and action. Is anyone going to be trying it out?

Hope leads me to excitement for this game.

Historical precedence reminds me that it will be over-hyped and under-delivered.

I will say, the detailed demo they gave during the Xbox showcase was impressive.

The pitch for Starfield seems to be Mass Effect inside an NMS-sized world. If they can pull it off, count me in. Assuming my system specs are up to the challenge.

It's coming to gamepass, so it's an easy yes for me

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Then I'll definitely be playing it. Didn't realize it'll be on gamepass, and I have it for Wondows. Niiiiice!

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Hell yeah! I'd love to play No Man's Skyrim

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I'm cautiously optimistic gonna wait for reviews but knowin my dumbass I'll end up buying it no matter what because its bethesda.

Yep, built a beast PC specifically to play NMS, gotta feed it some new meat at some point

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

does NMS take a beefy comp? ive played it on my slightly shit comp but thought it ran fine but just personally built a big beefy boy and wonder how much better it would look/play?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It runs great on a Steam Deck, even when using a higher-resolution external display, so I don’t think it needs anything really beefy. Though I’m sure you’d get better graphics.

I haven't built a PC in over 10 years so I may have gone a bit nuts with my specs. I figured if I was going to spend the money I wanted something that would last a while. I don't think NMS requires a beefy PC but it certainly looks and runs awesome. I started on the Switch and quickly decided that I wanted a better experience so, being a huge nerd, I went the DIY PC route. Teleports/warps take seconds instead of minutes, terrain and bases load before I land rather than having to exit my ship and stand there while the door appears on the base I just landed at. Overall, I highly recommend the beefy PC for NMS.

hmmmm

may have to DL and try it again on my new big boy

I also just built a new computer and the experience has been so much better and smoother. Built the computer to run AI models so it can definitely max out NMS. Having a blast after not playing since the start of covid when my old computer died.

Yep. Can't help it, I'm a sucker for a Bethesda game, warts and all. Also, it's coming to Game Pass day one, so nothing to lose really if you're already a subscriber.

I imagine it's going to be more hand crafted and story driven, like the Elder Scrolls or Fallout, rather than the more procedural discovery focused approach of NMS.

I'll wait a few weeks to see the user reviews and find out if it's buggy, but I definitely plan to try it.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, once it goes on sale.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hell yes. Is it going to be buggy as fuck? I'll be amazed if it isn't. There are sure to be people who pick and find fault but as with almost all Bethesda games, it'll be a solid RPG.

I played Fallout 4 before any of the others in the series and really enjoyed it. Same with Mass Effect, played Andromeda first and really enjoyed it... sometimes critical reception can go a bit overboard highlighting what's wrong, especially when people have a strong preconceived idea of what it should be like based on past iterations.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'll definitely be waiting for the reviews to come in and settle, but assuming it's a solid game I'll probably give it a shot being a big fan of Fallout and Elder Scrolls. I've got such a backlog, though, it likely won't be any time soon.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yep! I'll be adding Starfield to my rotation. It may or may not become my main game for a while. It all depends on how good and interesting it will be. So far, I like what I see!

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I'm waiting to see what stance Bethesda takes on mods first. No Bethesda game is complete without mods, and if they force mtx for mods, then I don't think I'll buy it personally.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'm on PS5 so... no lol. But after Fallout 4 and 76 I'd be very hesitant anyway

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Also, Microsoft boasting it will be a 'bethesda game with the least amount of bugs' has me rollin'.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The game being on game pass makes an easy pick up for me. But if I consider buying on steam I'll wait until the game releases first

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I am likely going to play it as I have played most of their games but I'm going to wait a bit. Not in a rush. Let some of the bugs get fixed. I just got back into NMS after not having a computer for the past 3 years. Game looks great on my new one. So much more to do than when I last played.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I'll wait for the reviews for Starfield before I decide if I purchase the game. Bethesda has a rocky history with new game launches, I usually wait at least 6 months before buying one of their games. So at least it will be patched enough to be playable without game breaking issues...

I definitely plan to, though probably not on day one. I have a feeling that it will probably be really buggy at first, both because it's Bethesda, and because it looks really ambitious feature-wise, so will probably need a while iron out the worst bugs. Also I play on Linux, so will need to use the Proton compatibility layer which might not work perfectly at first.

I love NMS though, and have over 1600 hrs. in it. NMS has a charm, and aesthetic vibe that seems quite different to what I have seen of Starfield, so I don't think it will replace NMS for me, I plan to play both.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I mean 40 hours is a lot of time in any game when you think about it. I just got into NMS a few days ago and loving it so far.

Starfield looks interesting but I can just tell from their showcase that it’s just NMS, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous but with Bethesda style quests. The fact that all of the interactions that you will have on the planets will be procedurally generated does not make any sense to me. You won’t be able to share an interesting discovery with your friends because everybody’s interactions are unique.

Gonna be janky AF but without all

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

@1019throw I'm afraid it will be another 'stone scanner simulator' ;(

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

They do seem awfully similar...

That being said, I'll be getting Starfield. I expect I'll still play NMS from time to time. It's the game I usually come back to between other games or when there's a major update.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yes! After they work the bugs out. Works well, I still need to play Skyrim first.
