I linked a Warlockracy video because I really enjoy his choice of games and presentation.

Other channels I really enjoy: Mandalore, Grim Beard, Civvie11, Oboeshoesgames, and Boulder Punch.

If you can’t tell, I like longform, scripted and edited videos on older games and niche games and mods.

CJUgames, Many A True Nerd (MATN), ManlyBadassHero, and Markiplier are my favourites. Except for MATN, they all focus on horror games. I like MATN for his strategy game playthroughs, such as Civ or Xcom.

I'm a big fan of Baalorlord. He's a top-level slay the spire player with a bunch of world-record streaks, and his main channel is primarily spire play... which may not interest you if you're not into that game. But his archives and variety channel and Baalorlord plays channels have more game variety, with a strategy bent. Recent plays I can think of include xcom, cult of the lamb, brotato and vampire survivors, several deckbuilders other than spire, into the breach, slice and dice, and has a running series where he plays the old snes game chronotrigger.

Super melodious voice, very positive vibe... he never shit talks or makes excuses, top tier strategic analysis on the thinky games, great punny jokes and light atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Errant Signal does meta analysis on all types of games but focuses on obscure indie titles. He’s probably love/hate but I really enjoy his style and I love the obscure games.

Icaruslives does all doom mods. Easy 5-10 min vids on all the thousands of doom mods out there.

Game Maker’s Toolkit is all about analysis of game components with the MO of thinking about how to make a good game. Very interesting and well produced

Upisnotjump does a ton of shit but if you’re into the long form style he’s got a lot. Humor forward with quick cut editing so can be a lot but I’ve liked a lot of his stuff

I basically only watch Hermitcraft at this point. My faves are Etho, MumboJumbo, Joe Hills and ZombieCleo (honorable mention to Grian and GoodTimesWithScar)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah another Hermitcraft fan (excellent taste btw). Ive been catching up on Season 9 and I'm challenging myself to watch every hermit's videos. I'm finding every time I watch a video by a hermit I thought I didn't really like that much that they're actually all absurdly entertaining. I'm right about to hit the climax of the RentheKing arc and I'm constantly laughing out loud.

The fact that there's so much talent on that server is insane.

I just stumbled into grim beard. He good. Seems he’s doing the civvie bumper skits that are not really connected to any story.

Bingeing his library wile i wait for more content from Mandalore. I will have to try out oboeshouegames and boulder punch

PlayFrame Best dark souls “let’s plays” imho

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

I love GManlives for his "man on street" approach and when they were on, I watched Pretty Good Gaming (they closed a few years ago). I also watch the consumer advocate SidAlpha, although he posts rarely due to IRL committments.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

TBSkyen's Boss Designs Of series is pretty much the pinnacle of Souls analysis as far as I'm concerned. He uses his art degree skills to add a ton of context to what FromSoft might have been thinking about and it's incredibly fun to watch someone really consider and grasp what's happening narrative-wise rather than just vacantly watching something from Vaati after the fact.

I've been watching Raocow for years and years and still enjoy watching him and the games he plays.

I also enjoy Wirtual (TrackMania streamer and doco creator), SimpleFlips (Especially his Trouble in Terrorist Town vids), and then Broughy1322 (GTAV/FiveM racing streamer).

I think besides Simple I tend to gravitate toward more 'relaxed' commentary.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Holy shit, raocow, what a blast from the past! I'll also throw in Chip & Ironicus/ChipCheezumLPs. Their LP of 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand is really something else.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

I don't watch a lot of gaming related YT, but the one I can never get enough off is the Angry Video Game Nerd (Cinemassacre). A great combination of intreseting topics/info and humour. I only feel bad for all the destroyed cartidges. I hope he uses fake ones for those scenes 🥲.

I've been really enjoying https://www.youtube.com/@TheSaltFactory and https://www.youtube.com/@minimme. the salt factory does long form detailed examinations of games and minimme does shorter examinations of obscure games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Ive been watching oxhorn recently he does narrative videos for the fallout franchise that are great and interesting

AstralSpiff and backseat streams are speedrunners that absolutely wreck games in ways no creator ever intended

Karl jobst and summoning salt are good at narrating speedruns and speedrunning history

Fondly remember the yogscast I think they still do TTT videos

If you want a really good narrator of an old game krugsmash is your man/dwarf he does great with dwarf fortress

For video game development there's horrorscoped

I swear I have the weirdest watchlist lol Ive been mainly watching youtube politics and yet I have all these too XD

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Noah Caldwell-Gervais is not only one of my favorite gaming related youtubers; but likely one of my favorite creators on the platform as a whole.

Excellent long-form essays on games, and his travel vlog material is even better. Genuinely one of the best voices in video essays.

EDIT: [here] (https://youtu.be/PyvlamwZ4O8) is one of my favorite pieces he's done. It's a love letter to the new forza game, as well as the mystique of rally racing as a whole.

This is a bit obscure, but does anyone know any good German YouTubers? I'm trying to practice my language skills. :)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

For German YouTubers I can vouch for DiePixelHelden if you like mostly racing games

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

If you like racing/ cars try Failrace his monthly GTA V - Survive the Hunt is so great to watch. He is also great in commentating his races.

Another racing YouTuber is AR12Gaming does mostly Forza content but occasionally does also other racing games.

Last one I want to shoutout is Blackpanthaa. He primarily focuses on Arcade Racing games especially Need for Speed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Many A True Nerd, Mikeburnfire... does Jerma count? I'll add him

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Havent really watched lets plays in a long time, but recently started watching Mapocolops. Hes got alot of content on his channel and is pretty fun to watch

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I'm a big fan of wand of sparking (mostly Terraria), lukethenotable (most Minecraft), and astralspiff (mostly fnaf). Astralspiff is great to watch streaming; makes for some great comfort content

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I like watching zanny for the humour and 3kliksphilip for CS:GO-related videos

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I watch a lot of skill up and the rest of the members from the friends per second podcast. Razbuten and nakeyjakey are good as well. I'm into yugioh as well so I watch dzeef and their group.

Christopher Odd, hands down.

Discovered him around the time XCOM2 got released, because I was looking for someone to learn a trick or two from. Learned a lot from how he plays tactical games, but stayed for his calm and down to earth way (I absolutely can't stand that hyper, over-the-top crap that a ton of Let's Players do). Have also discovered the one or other gem through his videos.

Can only recommend!

Oh, and I also watch a ton of stuff on game design due to an interest into game development and recently did a blog post on my favourites there. To quickly summarise that: The Architect of Games, Design Doc, Game Maker's Toolkit, GDC, Noclip, Razbuten

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I love Christopher Odd too, he has a great pick of games and always pumps out content pretty quick. Also highly recommend.

I like watching AfroSenju, I think his personality is pretty hilarious. Though I only watching him once in awhile because sometimes the humor is just a little too one note. I also like Throne to watch Madden being a shitshow for free instead actually paying for it. But he has not posted in about a month and he sounded pretty fed up with the game at this point. I don't like other Madden YouTubers but he also reps Minnesota sports so I appreciate that as Minnesota native and sports fan.
