Mediocre reviews. Gameplay appears to be designed for kids. The mystery is dull and unsurprising for adults, although it has a certain charm.

This just in, game franchise aimed towards kids is lambasted for being for kids. Shocked Pikachu face WE GOT OLD. ITS OKAY.

I'll never understand how/why so many people seem convinced that Pokémon is a franchise targeted at adults, then get mad when the games are clearly made for kids

Humans being humans. They want products to be targeted at them.

When the 90s kids are in their 70s-80s, they will be complaining the games are to colorful for them.

Too bad. The original Detective Pikachu had the same issue: the "puzzles" were obvious and half the time, the game explicitly walks you through the thought process to solve a puzzle before you are given a chance to try it. It targets a much younger player base than main-line Pokemon games.

It is in sharp contrast to the plot, which hints at some very dark things (land sharking, the long term damage of improper criminal convictions). The overarching story of the game is trying to uncover the fate of your father, a private investigator who came down with a violent case of "missing".
