His statements appear to be a by-the-book representation of born-again mentality. In my own experience with people doing this, it's a last ditch response to, "people think I've become messed up and no longer being a decent human, so I'm doing this to prove I'm not messed up."

This is only effective as long as they make maneuvers to avoid being "messed up". The statements he made in his video can only be taken as far as his practices afterwards. Does he apologize? Does he atone? Does anything happen besides "I dunked myself in water which means Jesus and I love each other" which is only the thinnest veil of non-action that results in positive feedback from the largest body of the public I can reach with one video. What do YOU think about his statements? Are you an atheist or are you baiting?

Help (lemmy.world)
submitted 3 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I was laid off earlier this month from my job as an HVAC service tech due to lack of work, a first in the 8 years I've been in the industry. I'm looking for work but the mild winter in California has made my job obsolete until it gets hot and I'm feeling ROUGH.

My wife became pregnant with our second child last month, and my hours have been slashed since last October, so money is tight, and our relationship is strained.

I'm considering a career change but I have a couple thousand dollars worth of specialized tools and experience that I'm loathe to put aside. I'm feeling hopeless and I just wanted to reach out to other dads to vent and see if there's other ideas out there.

I was genuinely in this camp

That's very true. I've been down so many rabbit holes by now though that I have started giving up trying to do anything because I feel like as soon as I get good at it I'll lose interest/it's pointless/etc. Thanks for replying and making me feel a little bit seen.

Understanding ADHD (lemmy.world)
submitted 5 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hey everyone, I saw a community called ADHD Talk, but it's got no users, so I came here instead.

I like this community because it provides a lot of funny contexts for the difficulties I come across in understanding my diagnosis, and some honest stories from other ADHD people (victims? Possessors?, Space cadets?)

It's also hard because, like some legitimate OCD possessing members that groan at every mild example of specificity, it's hard to filter out the general decrease of attention spans due to technological advances/rapid cuts used in animation from other people trying to understand and live with a diagnosed disorder.

Anyways, hoping I can make some new friends here (which despite being very social in person and 33 years old, I haven't figured out how to make friends online somehow?)

ADHD Talk (lemmy.world)

I just wanted to find some people to talk to about ADHD, but didn't see anything here. Hoping I can see what other folks on Lemmy are focusing/not focusing on.

I'm a 33 year old who was diagnosed 2 years ago, and when I talked to my dad about it, he just said, "well yeah, you've always been a little...Insert vague hand wave here" I'm currently taking straterra because the psychiatrist asked me if I wanted to do scheduled or unscheduled, and the scheduled stuff scares me a bit.

I often wonder if it's working, because attention is such a subtle thing. I am getting better at remembering things I need to do and mustering the initial momentum to get started on small tasks. I am also becoming painfully aware of how my brain is working differently than other people's but I've been badly masking so long that I don't know how to reconcile the differences.

Anyways, I love talking to people face to face (probably to absorb all of their social cues apparently?), so I've never figured out how to connect to people online. As a card carrying millennial, I want to figure out how to fix that.

Nice what-aboutism, Biden's son isn't even an elected official in any capacity. False equivalence is a red flag logical fallacy.
