I'd like to theme an old Windows XP or 2003 system to resemble a more modern Macintosh system. I already have a base theme for WindowBlinds, but would like to try finding additional resources such as icons, sound effects, etc..

And apparently thememypc dot net keeps throwing up janky suspicious advertising rather than allow downloads anymore ☹️

The answer is most likely Linux.

Agreed. But this isn't altogether about just themeing an old OS, I want the shit to work too. And I'm not a noob, I've salvaged entire games from NTFS volumes from within custom Windows 3.11 environment with DOS drivers..

But why, though?

WinOSX used to be a thing, back in the day, but no idea if still works or if the downloads are now riddled with malware. But worth looking into.

But seriously, what’s got you looking to do this? I’d totally get reskinning XP a couple of decades ago but now, especially given how many security vulnerabilities riddle XP, I’d only use that thing entirely offline.

Why? Cuz why not? I still do occasional tweaks to MicroXP/Micro2003..

Hey, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having fun however you find it. I’m just really intrigued what you’ve got in store for a Windows XP box that looks like OS X. As in, once you’ve got it skinned/themed, then what happens?

It’s a really intriguing project!

LOL!

It won't do anything super magic, but it does unlock a few layers of stupid that nobody needs haha!

It's all about nostalgia LOL!

Oooooh. Now I want to go and build an WinOSX box and relive my youth too! Might have to install an old copy of CygWin as well, for good measure (got to have bash on the thing).

Hit me up later, I don't think this is the community to share my goofy ass projects on..

I think a majority of the time they are just posted to UnixPorn anyways. If it's an older version of Windows you could try some retro computing communities.

I think there's a few subreddits like /r/rainmeter or /r/windowsporn but I don't know if something similar exists on Lemmy yet.

My project would actually be blasphemy to UnixPorn, I got Win311 running from a single floppy disk.

Okay okay, two floppy disks, if you need NTFS or USB drivers or such..
