Male-male connectors exist in wiring. There's even "gender benders".

I took this as getting at stuff like that extension cord that was pulled from Amazon not too long ago that had 2 male ends

And an accurate name too

If you don't know what you're doing when getting one of those cables it's a painful way to learn you didn't know as much as you thought.

And if you know what you're doing you're not creating one of those abominations.

Like, jank sometimes has to happen but when you're an electrician alone at the arse of the world with grid power down and a generator at hand what you do is disconnect the mains connection and bodge a male cord into there. Call it a manual switchover.

"I need to stick a fork in an outlet, but it needs to he longer"

You fucking don't use one, you have the correct connector and a changeover switch installed.

The fact this guide even exists is irresponsible.

People make male to male extension cords all the time, particularly around Christmas when they hang their lights the wrong way and are too lazy to redo it. Also lots of redneck generator back feeds. Then they wonder why little Timmy keeps zapping himself.

For signal cables, yes. Male-male cables for power are a good way to electrocute someone.
