Any actual conservatives here? I would honestly welcome respectful disagreements and discussions with people that have very different opinions and views to mine.
Conservative
We are a community dedicated to discussion surrounding the political right.
People of all political views are welcome here, but we expect a high level of discussion from everyone.
Rules:
-Good Faith participation only. take hollow shit slinging elsewhere please
-Stay on topic. should be obvious
-Follow instance rules. They pay the bills, they get to set rules.
Whether or not I'm considered an "actual conservative" is a question of identifying the true Scotsman, but I'm trying to help grow this community if you're interested in discussion
Probably not since this instance skews pretty far left
Pre-2015 /r/conservative was actually a decent place where you could hold a good faith debate.
Wonder what happened in 2016 to make this change..
Not what you might call a conservative, but I welcome opinions that differ from my own. Sometimes it helps us better understand others, or better understand ourselves.
Welcome! I hope this community serves you well, without chaos and trolling.
Me too! Thanks! I would like to understand my conservative family better.
This is my very first lemmy post and I'm not conservative, but I'm here to learn and chat!
Republicans are dumb as shit.
Are libertarians conservative though? 🤔
I would say yes.
They don’t believe in social conservative ideas though and their other believe don’t really classify as conservative
Except that there's no other home for libertarian ideas. Sure libertarians may not be FOR conservative causes, but "rugged individualism", small government aspirations, and social apathy are incompatible with progressive platforms.
Since this is about conservative vs progressive for the community and not democrat vs republican, and it's de facto 2 party, I think there's only one logical place to put libertarians: apathetic lean right isn't a category to pick.
@zerocool since I forgot about you lol
A Libertarian society might lead to some more conservative ideas but I don’t think it’s completely incompatible with progressive ideas, a libertarian doesn’t have an issue with gay marriage etc so I think there’s a clear distinction there
There is indeed a little nuance, but it seems to me that if the question is "do libertarians qualify as conservative" that the answer leans toward yes if the only answers are yes/no.
I mean I would agree but the other option is destroying the economy even if libertarians disagree with conservatives on social issue at least they don’t try over regulate the market
Go on....
You mean like the shit show that already is the other conservative instance? A takeover by liberals?
Explain how your guys behavior is somehow higher than thou once more please...
So you're pretty jaded then. Bummer.
Most definitely. But I've been hoping a more civil discussion can be found, but so far nada.
Feel free to jump in on the gun control post. It's about the only content so far unless you've got something.
"hey, let's talk fascism but NICELy!!"
