I recommend mlem! 10 year reddit user and daily Apollo user, this isn't feeling as foreign as I'd imagined. It helps that I browse /r/all like a madman, so browsing /c/all here isn't actually that different
UKCasual
A friendly place to chat.
No politics please. Don't be a dick.
deleted my 17yr account. mlem is great for Apollo users.
It is a bummer to leave behind a place that I enjoyed. I met several people IRL, I got 2 Guinness World Records for Reddit Secret Santa. Countless new music from r/listentothis & r/music. Great brewery recommendations from people in the places I visit from r/beer.
I'm looking forward to find fediverse places that are just as fun & helpful.
Secret Santa was great. You never know, maybe we'll end up being able to run something similar one day, fediverse-style.
I'm from the U.S.
One of my gift exchange people were from Norway. My extended family is from Norway and I had been dying to visit.
I kept in touch with my gift person and we actually met in person in Oslo. Was a great day.
I love what I've experienced through reddit.
But,
#Fuck /u/spez
I'm officially out by July 1st.
That's amazing! Last year we tried and failed to get tickets to see the Green Bay Packers (my team) play in London, as I'd never seen them in person before. Was a bit gutting to miss out, but there was huge demand so such is life.
Commiserated with others in the Reddit thread, congratulated those who managed to get in, etc etc. Then I got a random message from a stranger, offering me free tickets.
Obviously that sounds like a scam and as a woman on Reddit you're naturally wary of unsolicited messages anyway, but TLDR it was a real offer, we got ourselves down to London and met this amazingly generous Redditor and his wife and spent a fantastic day, er, watching my team get trashed by the Giants!
So yes, Reddit had potential for these connections that would otherwise never have happened, and I'll definitely miss that side of it. But ultimately that was the people, not the platform itself, so I guess what I'm saying is all we need to do is build Lemmy into a place those kinds of people want to hang out.
Nice.
I went nuclear and used Redact (redact.dev) to edit-then-delete all my posts.
Reddits value is its communities and content.
I did this also, but then read that because loads of subreddits are dark our comments don't get deleted from them!! Should've waited until the subreddits were back in hindsight, but ahh well is a little late for me now as my account is gone.
This is the way IMO. Nuke your posts first, then delete your account.
Also helps if you had, in your younger days perhaps, posted any PII on reddit that you've now forgotten about.
Deleted my 10 year-old account early today, myself. Felt great.
Wooo! hats off to ya :D
I also delete my 11 year account was gonna be my cake day July 1sth. what a present I got from the reddit CEO himself :D!
6 year old account deleted. I came here, just trying to understand the differences in the way things work but should sort it sooner than later. Glad someone already has the UKCasual ~~subreddit~~ ~~sublemmy~~ community going. Where else are we going to talk about cups of tea and what order jam and cream go on scones?
feel free to drop me a message if you have any Qs
Thanks, I'm having a little peruse around. It feels similar but at the same time different. I'll get there no doubt after reading some of the tutorials but will message if I need some help. Cheers
And the weather, obviously, which is roasting right now. Had a hailstorm a couple of nights ago (in June!) which got the pollen out the air for a bit, so that was nice.
Also deleted my 8-yr Eternity account yesterday after removing all my posts. Glad you’re here!
Yeah I edited all of my posts and comments to say why I was leaving, where I was headed and how I wiped my account. Viva la revolucion :D
or should this be viva la reddilucion hmm..
It's rather wonderful - I deleted my many accounts and now enjoying life on the bright side.
I'm not sure I'd go back to Reddit now even if they sort out their act...
Same dude I was really looking at cutting my usage down but reddit was such an easy "default" gotta say props to spez for curing my addiction haaaaaaaaaa
I'm thinking of doing the same, just waiting on the data download request to go through. I wish I could delete it immediately though..
Same though, I feel this has given me the push I needed to quit Reddit entirely. I'd gotten control over pretty much all other social media so I honestly appreciate this in a way.
F*ck yea! 10yr old account for me. I like it so far. also on kbin and mastodon
Just deleted my 14 year old account. Just a tip with redact when deleted you can edit all your comments and posts to say something. I entered "Deleted due to reddit's API policy".
I did exactly the same an hour ago, joined Reddit in 2008, and was active in several communities. It was actually really hard, at least harder than expected. I didn't just delete my account but used Redact to completely nuke it.
I feel a bit lost, to be honest. This feels a bit like the old newsgroups (gods I'm old),still here's to new beginnings :)
Deep breaths. You're going to be ok.
I just got banned after reporting a fox post on r/politics stating climate change hasn’t made wildfires worse….
Saying I’m abusing the report toon to bully. For reporting one fucking post. Fuck that site. I’m just pissed off I can no longer delete all my comments and posts.
So I guess what we should all do is delete all our posts and comments, and THEN look for some false information to report ;)
Oof. You got banned sitewide for that? Jesus.
Yep. Not even as if I’d reported shit beforehand, maybe once or twice in the few years I’ve had this account.
Best of it is - the mods fucking removed the post altogether, becaUse it’s obvious fucking lies.
Bunch of cunts man.
Proud of all of you. Will get there soon myself I reckon.
I've had my current one for about 12 years too and will be deleting it in the next day or so. I'm just trying to find alternative communities for subreddits I was subscribed to and lurked on often whether it's on a Lemmy Instance or Discord.
Edit: ok, all deleted now.
I've archived my saved posts and upvotes, and deleted the mobile app. I never use the website. I might shred my comments and posts and delete my account before the end of the month. I don't think I'll go back. Honestly, I was tiring of it anyway. So many bots, reposts and memes. I'm not optimistic about Lemmy, to be honest - Mastodon seems to have quietened down after the initial flurry of activity, so I can see the same thing happening here, but it will be interesting to see what happens. But I think I'm done with Reddit.
I'm so determined for something to replace Reddit that I think Lemmy might actually succeed. If there's tens or hundreds of millions of others then enough of them will go to Lemmy for it to have active community.
Do a flip!
Tell your friends!
I also deleted mine a few days . It was only a few years old so it had nothing on most people's I see posting. I won't be back.
Usually a lurker, but hello folks. Hoping this will be a nice spot for some uk-focused stuff.
I just wiped and deleted mine, too. PSA for anyone who is wanting to remove all their content, you need to delete every comment / post individually before deleting your account. Just deleting the account does not delete the associated postings, your username simply becomes disassociated with them.
I used redact.dev and deleted all of my history fairly quickly.
Just gotta replace that doom scroll, hopefully with something a bit less of a time waste!
Currently I'm using mastodon, tildes and lemmy to replace reddit. Jumping between them gives a natural break which I've found I've been utilising to do productive things / other non-scrolly hobbies more, I'm loving that fact.
PS if anyone wants an invite for tildes PM me, I have 3 left.
wtf else should I do heavy breathing
I suggest enjoying that feeling of freedom. At least that's what I did after wiping all my Reddit post & comments and deleting my 10 year old account. Surprisingly enough I don't feel a shred of regret.
One of the things I was curious about after removing all my comments was what I ended up downvoting. Nearly every single one was a misclick. Some were pretty interesting. Grabbed all the saved cool guides I've collected over the years.
Crumpets and tea for all!!
Swim with sharks?
