I'm just starting to figure things out and, even if I'm not strictly interested in the topic, I'd love to subscribe to a few of the more active communities just for the discussion.

At the top of the Lemmy window (or in the hamburger menu, if you're using Lemmy from your phone) just click "communities" and then select "all" sorting. It will show you all communities federated to your local instance, with it default-sorted by # of active users per month.

IDK about popular but today we launched theGarden.land to be a warm place for plant-lovers. Would love to welcome new users. It also helps to 'spread the load' from the major instances. Plus any new users can get sent a free packet of foxglove seeds if they sign up and DM their address
