What’s wrong with putting a light in the side mirror like every other car?
A camera feed eliminates the chance of a computerized car detection system making a mistake. Either you see out the camera and using human analysis be 100% sure what's in your blind spot, or your camera doesn't work and you know to look the old fashion way.
Blind spot lights on the mirror aren't foolproof and could lead to people trusting it too much, which Teslas need less off.
I disagree. I’m already looking at my mirror to see if a car is in the lane besides me. A nice light indicator can be seen at the same time. I also need to double check my blind spot while I’m already looking in that direction. A camera makes me look completely opposite of where I should be looking.
Nothing will ever be foolproof, nothing is 100% certain. A blind spot monitor indicator is way better than a camera. Honda used to do the camera method and now use the indicator like everyone else. The camera method sucks.
Have you actually tried the camera on turn signal in a Tesla?
Yup, my brother in law has one and he had a civic before. Didn’t like either implementation. Would take a light in my mirror any day
It takes practice to get used to a new UI as critical as blind spot detection. It took weeks of daily driving for me to get comfortable with the cameras checking my blind spots. Now its night and day how much better a camera poping up to see my blind spot, and I don't have to trust any software to check my blind spot.

oh sorry for some reason I thought you meant bumper.
They're tiny (can't have those useful camera views obstructing the completely pointless and permanent "mind of car" view where it shows you all the things you can see plainly with your eyeballs) and they're completely invisible at night with the light bleed from the flashers.

The real problem is the stupid mirrors can't turn out far enough to be of any use. They just look at the side of the car which is utterly useless.
Mirrors need to be able to jack right out. In my ute I can see 2 lanes over and read the number plate of cars inline with the back of my vehicle.
I have no blind spot because I have my mirrors set correctly.
On my wife's model 3, the mirrors are completely useless unless I want to see how much dust is on the side of her car.
No problem with the mirrors on my Model 3 (2020). I don't even see the side of my car unless I move my head towards the mirror.
The only way that could be possible is if your sitting way too close to the wheel.
I see it a lot with women. They sit with their chest basically touching the wheel.
Ideally you want to sit as far back as possible. Slight bend in your elbow. The further away from the wheel you are the greater the chance you will survive a serious incident.

Well, it's not like I need to actually reach the gas or the brake. How about manufacturers stop making everything designed for an idealized male body instead.
That's a good point.
However you probably find men buy and drive most cars a lot more than women. So they set up the car for the majority customer and the wife just has to make do.
I sit WAYYY far back. Probably too far, but I like to recline.
