  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

The California governor blasted Trump amid the president’s deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Donald Trump’s threats against him and other Democrats following the president’s unilateral deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area carried all the markings of authoritarianism.

“It’s just an extraordinary moment, and I don’t want to overstate it, but these are the words of an authoritarian,” Newsom said in a Monday interview with POLITICO. “Whether he acts on it or not, the chill that creates is real, and it’s a serious moment, very serious.”

Trump and his border czar have targeted Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass by name with threats of arrests — and other ominous unspecified acts to be carried out by the federal government if the two don’t fall in line. Newsom spoke after a weekend of unrest — property destruction and bursts of violence — following immigration raids in the region.

If it walks like a Nazi and talks like a Nazi, it's probably a Nazi.

Gavin Newsom also has conversations with Charlie Kirk as if he was a normal well adjusted human who didn't harbor an unbelivable amount of bigotry, so yeah Newsom you are right but only because your job is to play the heel and they underlined your parts for you already in the script.

I really tried to understand Newsom’s motivations for that, and I just can’t wrap my head around it. I have no problem engaging with the other side, but only when it’s in good faith or when you’re prepared and willing to push back against every single bullshit extremist thing they say. There is no good faith with a person like Kirk, and Newsom didn’t challenge him at all, so it was pretty obvious that he’s just courting right-wing extremists.

Well he's going to run for President isn't he. He want's to know why so many people are so loyal to a demented rapist felon who can't finish a thought much less govern. And frankly, there's some honest questions to know there. Of course Charlie fuckin Kirk doesn't know them. And he ate a lot of shit for trying that.

Newsom's motivations are crystal clear, play the ""Leftwing"" villain Trump can beat so someone like AOC doesn't dominate and utterly reshape US politics for the better. Trump is giving Newsom air time the best way he knows how and it is working on neoliberals and centrists like the most condescending charm ever.

I am sure the DNC and powerful players in the party actually legitimately support this strategy no matter the consequences (gotta rip the bandaid off or else the wound will heal as Chuck Shumer always says).
