Hello I have a specific case. I guess nothing complicated but I’m lost a little bit in all these CPU parameters. I have a 7800x3d, nothing changed when taken out of box, just expo enabled in BIOS. I’m not a big fan of changing BIOS parameters, overclocking, undervolting, playing with voltage settings etc. I don’t want to increase performance so much, also I’m ok with temperatures like 85C. I don’t care. Generally when I play demanding games the temperature is about 68-75C. Even in MSFS2024 which I play a lot (that’s my main game) temps are ok most of the time. But only this game makes a problems. There are some scenarios that CPU is heavily loaded for miliseconds and the temperature is increasing from for example 85 to over 95 and PC shuts down. The throttling is set to 89 but it doesn’t have a time to react I guess. Yesterday I set PBO limits to disabled (to keep it default) and put all cores -30 with PBO 2 curve. Performance looks the same (tested in Cinebench and Aida), clocks are a little bit higher, temperature is generally the same or lower in MSFS2024. And the surprise: throttling is working! When it comes to 89 it slows down, what satisfies me. But during testing in MSFS2024 I managed anyway to go over 95 degrees and PC shut down.
So my question is, what parameter to change to decrease this heavy power demand in some cases which last for like one second? As I said, I’m happy about the performance and temperatures, but this MSFS2024 is a beast, I think something is not well designed in that game. On the other hand I woudn’t like to decrease PPT to not to have less performance. Maybe decrease the EDC? Please help.
