Good to know that nothing has changed in 2000 years. "Straining at flies while letting camels pass"

PR pope spews a hollow platitude, while continuing to ignore child sexual abuse

Idiots on Reddit and Lemmy who buy into it cheer and praise this "progressive" pope

Actually Francis has been addressing the issue and updated Church Doctrine in order to make it easier to catch predators.

See the problem is. If you do something illegal but confess it to the Church, they have to keep it a secret and may not work with law enforcement. Otherwise they betray their vows to keep confessions a secret.

So if you squeal, you're going to Hell and the Church has no choice but to excommunicate you.

Francis has been updating this to create exceptions for instances of Priests confessing abuse of their flock to another Priest. Meaning Priests would be free to cooperate with law enforcement and can act to punish misbehaving preachers even if they confess.

You just aren't hearing about this because

  1. "Lol Catholics diddle kids" is too good a soundbyte for New Atheist speakers

  2. Bad news sells better than Good news, so the papers talk about the former more often.

The Pope still refuses to meet, acknowledge or allow into the Vatican, the victims of childhood priest abuse who want to confer with him. He continues to publicly do one thing, while doing the opposite behind closed doors.

Typically gay men became priests as then no one questioned why they did not marry. Do with that information as you will.
