Okay so in the beginning of this movie, it starts with Jonas and his 2 peers rescuing people from a submarine. Id assume this is below the false bottom of the trench since the Megaladon is what (presumably) attacked the submarine before and during the rescue.
However what I found a bit confusing is that during the scenes of the Origins first descent below the clouds or the "false bottom" of the trench, it seemed like that was their first ever time going at that depth, especially since it was hinting toward the idea that they were testing the theory of whether the trench was deeper or not.
I know this is probably a flaw in the plot but in case it isn't, am I missing something here? It doesn't really make sense cause if Jonas was doing the rescue below the clouds (which he likely was since that's the only place the Meg was at the time) then why would they treat it as if it was a new discovery 5 years later?
Edit: Alright so now I know it's not at the Mariana Trench where the opening scene occurs, but it is confusing that there was a Meg there somehow.
