Kristi Noem gave an egregiously wrong definition of the legal principle habeas corpus while testifying to senators Tuesday.

“Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country,” Donald Trump’s homeland security secretary said.

She was quickly cut off by the stunned senator who had asked her to define the term, Maggie Hassan. “That’s incorrect,” the New Hampshire Democrat said.

Hassan explained that the well-known legal concept refers to a detained person’s right to know why they are being held so they can challenge their imprisonment in court.

I hate that the country is being destroyed by the dumbest fucks. I wish it was destroyed by an evil genius. At least then, I could respect how smart and clever their evil plan was. 😔

Careful what you wish for...

We have a warning example right in front of us. Not saying Putin is a genius but he's certainly evil and certainly way more intelligent than most of the current US administration. And he's got a pretty good grip on his country and people.

Seen this way, what happens in the USA right now is way better.

The smart ones pulling the strings have their names hidden. Better believe Trump and his parties benefactors are driving the chaps they want. How long till our data and protection will be (fully) outsourced?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

The smart ones thought they were setting the table for themselves to take power. They left the castle gate open. We are being pillaged.

Fucking neonazis. Habeas Corpus is necessary to a well functioning democracy just like education. I'm so fed up.

Those hearings serve no purpose anymore. You get no information out of them. Avoiding questions or straight out lying has no consequences. You get a funny video and everyone moves on.

When she is required to report to the courts regarding the absence of due process for immigrants they can have fun explaining to a judge why she's dumber than a box of rocks and can't be trusted to carry out due process because of it.

"Ms. Noem, are you an idiot?"

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 day ago

"I mean really, how pathetic can you Democrats be? Of course I know what the definition of law is... It is whatever Trump says. That's so well known even my dead puppy knows that!"

Faux News: BADASS Kristi Noem SCHOOLS Democrats on definition of "law."

Another reminder that qons don't and never have given a flying fuck about (real) freedom or liberty or the Constitution.

They are lying liars. Don't believe any of their bullshit about patriotism, or loving this country. They are full of shit. It's high time the left and liberals have reclaimed patriotism from these assholes.

Huh, looks like she's just acting out too much and can't be bothered to behave appropriately.

Time to take her out to the gravel pit, furiously run over to your truck while cursing, grab your shot gun and...

"enjoy the sunset"

This is the woman whose state is still plastered with posters from their anti-drug campaign "Meth, We're On it".

Not making that up by the way.

If there was ever a rabid bitch that needed putting down, it sure wasn't her 18 month old dog.

... She isn't even allowed to set foot on the 1/5th of her state that is Native Res territory. They've all banned her, personally.

To my American brothers and sisters here. You need to stop being nice, you need to stop waiting for an imaginary red line to be crossed before you take mass action. That red line passed a long time ago. I am someone from a country with a history of violence, and if you don't act now your options will end up being violence or a techno fascist state. Cripple the country, general strikes, mass protests! . I genuinely hope I don't come across as condescending, I've protested in vain countless times in my country, to no avail. But you have the numbers!.

Sincerely a concerned friend of the real America.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

can you give us advice on how to mass protest better? we've been protesting constantly but i don't know if it's in the wrong spot or not the right kind of protest or not big enough, because the protests aren't doing as much as we'd like

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

Look at the French, at the Serbians, they shut down the country. The protests have to be disruptive by nature otherwise you're not really achieving anything, they're still spewing out executive orders and going against everything the legal framework and safeguards you're supposed to have stand for. That means not waiting for the weekend, but shutting down main streets during the week. Civil disobedience across the entire country to cripple it.

The problem I see unfortunately is apathy, 33% actively want this administration, 33% would rather hide in the basement and hope for the best, and I'm not sure the other 33% have the stomach for it. Trump and his handlers would love nothing more than mass protests to declare an emergency. The question is, do you have the stomach for a fight, or hope that somehow there maybe future elections.

Sorry for the rant! But this is a leftist outsiders perspective.

I think you have to abandon the idea of stability, relative wealth and wellbeing, forget the present status quo and see yourself as inhabitants of an economically disadvantaged country with an unstable government.

So motivation is higher and the threshold to start doing something about it is lower, because nobody wants to give up (the illusion of) stability.

Oh and all forms of racism, which really creates huge division in your society. Together we stand, divided we fall.

And of course I mean "you all" - and therein lies the problem. Not an individual, but a critical mass. Go out and find them. See who is motivated to do more than just talking behind closed doors or walled gardens.

But hey, it IS happening already. Maybe not as much as necessary but otoh it goes through all strata of society. Seems not all people are shit-for-brains egomaniacs and even the established remnants of democracy are fighting back.

To admit a fact would be an admission of guilt.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

I just wanted to acknowledge how fitting the term ICE Barbie is.

[–] Mouselemming 8 points 1 day ago

I disagree. It's completely unfair to Barbie, who has more heart and less plastic.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

That’s not just wrong, she (or one of her aides) is mocking us.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Barbie never shot her dog Taffy when Taffy was naughty.
