Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

MODERATORS

Id personally like literature/imagination materialization. The whole concept of powers not being controllable, manifesting beings more powerful than yourself really appeals to me.

For artifacts the H dial is my favorite. I love seeing different unique powers, outfits, etc. and always liked the idea of following the same person with different powers everytime they tried to use them.

The morphing cube (or Escafil Device for the initiated) from Animorphs still has a special place in my heart. Nerfs for the sake of narrative tension aside (notably the 2 hour time limit), what a cool piece of tech that empowers people:

Only one use needed for any individual, the device itself seems to have unlimited uses, and you only need to touch it for a few seconds for it to permanently give you abilities!

And what abilities they are! Copy any living animal's DNA by touch, morph into an exact copy of any animal whose DNA you've already acquired, and heal all physical damage each time you morph while expelling any foreign bodies from your own (someone is even canonically cured of rabies via morphing).

I like something like Illyana Rasputin's power. Super teleportation and your own private dimension.

My personal favorite power-granting artifact would be a Lantern Power Ring. Especially orange, cause Larfleeze is my boy. They are literally some of the most powerful objects in the known and unknown universe.

Favorite straight-up power? I've always been a huge fan of Spider-Man and Superman. But there's also Wolverine with his godlike healing factor. There are too many cool powers to choose a favorite.

...

There's a reason there's only one orange lantern you know

Ever since I read a random AF TMNT comic where Donatello finds a crystal that turns his drawings into reality, I've wanted that power. It would be like having a genie that grants infinite wishes.

Watching doom patrol and they had two characters with that power, one was off their own art and one was off their mind. Really like the concept, they have like lives of their own and realize death is a possibility, liked that
