A lot of Asian homes don’t have a dedicated shower stall, as building spaces tend to be very limited.

Wet rooms are pretty common in Korea, and probably a lot of dense cities. The whole bathroom is treated as the shower, and there’s a drain in the center of the room.

Not saying I like it, but it’s not like this is some landlord special.

One of my old coworkers had an issue with that when he was visiting the US. He was at his hotel room and he did not put the shower curtain on the inside of the tub and basically did not even use it and went about showering all willy nilly. He finished up and there was a bunch of water on the floor and he kind of just assumed the drain was slow. The other person staying in the room from the US went into the bathroom and wondered why the fuck the shower curtain was on the outside of the tub. My coworker was from India and just thought the curtain was there to cover you if someone wanted to take a leak.

Cultural differences. Like the Korean ones, Indian bathrooms are generally designed to drain water from the whole floor, but instead of the center, the floor usually slopes down slightly to drain in a corner.

In the ones that do have a wet area - like in higher end hotels, there's usually a glass door as a separator.

So you put one portal down the toilet, one portal on the bottom of the bucket, and boom. Infinite shower.

That's about as depressing a place as I've ever seen that has indoor plumbing.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

That is… lovely.

264sqft?? You're paying almost $1000 per square foot...

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the city centre, the average price per square foot for apartments in Hong Kong is US$2,850

Outside of city centre, the average is US$1,876.

Ooofff that hurts 😵‍💫

Suddenly rent raises in the Midwest don't look that bad anymore.

Ooh, Hong Kong.

But also that's worse than NYC(?)

"In your nightmare, you urgently have to go, but the toilet keeps receding away from you...."

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That must be a nightmare to clean.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Assuming they even clean it

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

You think that's shadows?

[–] KeyFranchise 13 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 year ago

You need to reverse into this toilet naked, all buttered up

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago

Looks like something out of Trainspotting

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

There is a wax ring, then 2 bolts that hold it down. Then hook up the water line.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You don't. You put the toilet in first, then you raise the walls!

[–] secret301 4 points 1 year ago

Was gonna say the same thing

Imagine moving in and then you get depression and eat like shit so you become too fat to reach the toilet and since you're a depressed mess with no self respect you grease up the walls so you can push yourself fatly to the toilet.

Junji Ito is on the fediverse!?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'll bet the plumber had to grease himself up to get in there and do that job.

There's not even enough room to take off my shoes and socks.

I would like to retract my previous statement about how I don't mind small toilets.
They went the extra mile and installed nice looking tiles on the floor, which is nice. Alternatively, they separated a bathroom with toilets and showed into two rooms, which is usually good, but this particular version could have used a revision.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I would have tagged you but I couldn’t remember your username! It’s the toilet you always dreamed of!

Nightmare fuel…. I’d feel as if the walls are trying to swallow me whole… without chewing!

TIL even the boogeyman needs to shit.

Unnecessary. Wipe on the wall as you try to leave.

what a terrible day to have eyes

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think you'd probably glue a pool noodle or two to the walls for better absorbency. Poo noodle?
