Just wash it like you would wash normal pan, don't make it weird.

Except... Don't put it in the dishwasher like you would some pans. That will strip the seasoning...ask me how I learned... π

Legit. Seasoning is just creating a polymer on the iron to prevent rust. No different than the cast iron pans with ceramic coatings.
Scrub it clean with a metal scrubber and soap then reseason the pan. That burned oil needs to come off. I've never found cast iron pans to be too delicate.
Too much oil. Make the coat of oil nearly invisible, then season upside down so it canβt pool up like that. The sticky spot will get better. Just use it or season it again. The good olβ βcook some bacon in it.β
Best advice I ever got for cast iron was "Don't be greasy" pour in a bit of oil then wipe it all over and out and that's the perfect amount for seasoning.

I will put my pan on the stovetop at the highest level and use that to dry. Then I'll wipe a couple of layers of oil with a good paper towel. Usually does the trick if I wash it within an hour or so after cooking. But if it goes in the oven, it is upside down. No oil will pool that way.
Keep on keepin on, the sticky stuff will come off with your next use. Cook some bacon in it, that solves 90% of these issues.
When in doubt, reseason
Since it's newly sticky, do you think he could just add some oil, heat it up, and wipe it out really well to get rid of that?
