Dark theme is almost impossible to see. Dark blue on dark gray and black is a mess, at least in my phone.

This would be a terrific feature request. There should be an option to make custom day/night themes. I want true black with white roads and labels.

In the settings, set night mode to "off".

No I get that, I'm saying the colors in night mode are too hard to see.

Sorry about that, I've got a cold and can be a bit thick. Magic Earth might be an alternative, it's got various map themes to choose from.
