Yeah, hence why I won't ever donate a dime or volunteer for any Democrat. Just absolutely no fucking spine to do anything right. Him and Jefferies show how pathetic Democrats are.

I can't believe anyone still thinks Schumer is making a real political calculus based on harm reduction. He's literally never reduced harm to anyone but party elites. Get the fuck out of the way old bitch and utilize the power of the courts before there's only the executive. I legit feel like his reflex to play the victim while doing nothing is going to continue to his own death without a hint of regret.

Schumer is setting up a rake for Republicans to walk into, so I don't know why the title is so miseading, but taking the exact same playbook where you have to play chicken with narcissists who have already outlived the purpose in the fascist party if they're not willing to crash isn't going to go well for Dems. They need to take real actions and get a leader who can shout louder than half measured dickheads with no imagination.

Schumer you absolute fucking wilted parsnip this is why I will never give a single fucking cent to you, and this is also emblematic of why the Democratic Party leadership as a whole is absolutely and categorically useless.

Oh look - the Democrats are going to fight fire with lukewarm criticism.

Yes, that will surely work.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 hour ago

Fine, we'll do it ourselves.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 hours ago

That's what "they go low, we go high" translates to from Hillary's native tongue.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Some finger wagging and pearl clutching will do the job for sure this time!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

They're saving the finger wagging for the people that decided not to vote for them because their campaign was dogshit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

If the Dems aren't punching left they're begging them for money

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago

Don't forget Chucky's patented glower. Few people can glower like him.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago

If you expected literally anything else, you haven't been paying attention to democrats for the past 25 years.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 5 hours ago

They don't need to fight when they know that BlueMAGA will keep coming back to them no matter what they do.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 hours ago

Inaccurate title.

Neither the headline nor the article say Schumer is avoiding a fight.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 5 hours ago

letting republicants bury themselves is risky and probably won't work. the memory and attention span of the average voter just isn't there to allow the play to work.

you cannot let lord diaper continue to set the narrative. as he does, repeatedly, on multiple platforms and networks, every hour of every day with those nice, easy to digest three syllable soundbites that are just perfectly-sized for the cult members to absorb.

you have to get out in front and be the narrator, the play-by-play, and the color commentator. and write the story you want heard of how trump and his comrades fucked you, the public, over. every single time he does it. he's been the LOUD VOICE for a fucking decade now.

enough. is. enough.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 hours ago

Looks like they may have changed the headline out from under you. Please make it match up or we'll have to remove it.

Current headline:

"Schumer warns GOP against a 'Trump shutdown'

The Senate minority leader also detailed ways he plans to counter the new administration."

[–] [email protected] 20 points 5 hours ago

The one time we actually need a shutdown

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

So the play here is to just give R enough rope to hang themselves with? Let them take a sledgehammer to the rule of law and then run again on the platform of "at least we're not the ones who took a sledgehammer to the rule of law"? Do they genuinely think that that will work with a voter base with no object permanence? I didn't know this was possible, but shit is getting sadder by the second.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 hours ago

It didn't work before. Everyone who voted for Trump seemed to forget his first term and the damage done, including harm to those voters themselves. "This time will be different" is the stupidest take ever.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I don't understand how they're getting that out of this statement. His statement says it's on Republicans to work with Dems to avoid a shutdown?

Legislation: As you know, the FY25 Continuing Resolution expires on March 14, 2025–less than 5 weeks away. Senate Democrats are fully supportive of efforts by our Vice Chair, Senator Patty Murray to secure a topline Appropriations deal – the way the process is meant to function. Unfortunately, Leader Thune seems to have already abandoned regular order forthe appropriations process, instead choosing to focus solely on confirming the Trump nominees and pushing through the radical Republican reconciliation plan. Democrats stand ready to support legislation that will prevent a government shutdown. Congressional Republicans, despite their bluster, know full well that governing requires bipartisan negotiation and cooperation. Of course, legislation in the Senate requires 60 votes and Senate Democrats will use our votes to help steady the ship for the American people in these turbulent times. It is incumbent on responsible Republicans to get serious and work in a bipartisan fashion to avoid a Trump Shutdown.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 hours ago

ITT people who do not read the article

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What the hell are they scared of? Not like they're actually risking anything.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago

Upsetting their donors

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago

I can't wait to see what their investigation finds in 3 years! Hopefully they'll finally lay out a rock solid 7 year strategy to bring charges against Trump. That'll show 'em!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Has a shutdown flight ever actually worked for the minority party?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, the republicans always get what they want and the rich democrats tell us to wait and that they will fight for everyone later.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago

And then fundraise on that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

It works every time the Republicans do it. They get some concessions, and shutting down the government permanently is always their end goal.

It's more fraught when Democrats do it though, because it's the opposite of what they're trying to run on and it inflicts hardship on (what they should actually see as) their voting base.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Can the budget include special provisions like, "Only an act of Congress can put a hold on or divert funds that are allocated by this budget"? Penalties need to apply to regular employees as well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

The only recourse Congress has over a rogue president is impeachment. And we've seen before that Republicans won't convict him even after he literally tried to get them all killed (and even then, the removal process relies on the justice department enforcing it, I presume?).

The courts won't be a check either, because the Supreme Court has been happy to turn the constitution on its head for him, and even if they did, the executive branch is the one that has the means to enforce rulings.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago

lol "penalties"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago

Capitulating and refusing to fight doesn't sound like lesser evil to me, but it does sound a whole lot like more incremental fascism.
