Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will try to strengthen Canada's trade and security ties over the next five days with European allies also facing threats from U.S. President Donald Trump over their economy and sovereignty.

Trudeau is heading to Paris and Brussels starting Saturday — just days after Trump agreed to pause tariffs on Canada until March 4.

Roland Paris, a former adviser to Trudeau, says it's important for Canada and the European Union (EU) to share notes about how to deal with Trump during this time of great uncertainty and co-ordinate if he does unleash punishing tariffs against them.

As far as I'm concerned Canada should join the EU. I mean, we do already share a land border.

join the EU.

We'll see how it will go. The EU is made up of onion layers, each more integrated. There should be one which shouldn't take too much time. The current tailored CETA agreement is:

● it eliminates duties on 99% of all tariff lines, of which 98% were scrapped when it provisionally entered into force;

● it defends the Geographical Indications, and;

● it improves and secures companies’ access to the services market.

And, security wise, we ( EU &Canada) are also NATO allies already. Canada has also a lot of goodwill, specially in Northern Europe

Edited: sorry first link was EU link, edited to more neutral wiki)

I dunno. We've had a sea border with France - about 180 km west of Dildo, just off Point May in the A0E - and in 200 years it hasn't been a big help for our EU bid. Was it the fierce border war with those menacing Danes?

You know, 2 months ago I was remarking Trudeau should stop giving a fuck and go out like a rock star...

This will be like his worldwide farewell tour, close enough. I feel happy for him that he isn't ending his career as a deflated balloon like Biden.

I have plenty of issues with Trudeau, but I think a lot of people are going to miss him more than they expected once he's gone. He just has a way with Trump and other leaders

Definitely not perfect but just the fact he's giving all this effort while on the way out shows you his character, so yeah even if I don't agree with him on many things I at least respect him as a politician (as much as I can respect any politician especially when they don't have my views at all).

I feel similar about Mark Rutte, ex prime minister of the Netherlands and now secretary general of NATO, the guy is a cold ass conservative but god damn it's incomparable with the likes of trump.

Fuck rump and all his uneducated supporters! Canada will be waiting for him if he tries to fuck with us!

Before you do that, annex the blue states and we'll join you?

If you could interfere with the invasion force before they get to the border, that would be great.

It would certainly help with your application for admission to Canada.

Deal! Canada with the west coast + NY would be quite the team!

I, for one, welcome our Canadian overlords. Except Alberta. They can join the US.
