The trailer for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Monkey has apparently been banned by multiple TV networks for its excessive displays of violence and bloodshed.

A gory promotional video for the upcoming movie, which was helmed by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins and is set to be released in cinemas on 21 February, was turned down by four broadcasters, according to its distributor NEON.

In an Instagram post, the indie production company shared redacted screenshots of emails that they had received from four “major TV networks”, with all of the companies declining to feature the trailer.

“We submitted a TV spot for THE MONKEY to the four major TV networks,” the caption read. “It did not go well.”

...

The film has already received the seal of approval from King himself, who hailed The Monkey as “bats*** insane”.

Of course it received King's seal of approval. He approves of all of the movies based on his works, even when they are terrible.

Oh, except for The Shining.

During the publicity stage (when there is cash to be made) but with hindsight he is often less than flattering about quite a few of the adaptations of his work (and rightly so as quite a few have been pretty poor).

He doesn't gatekeep his work. It's for people to enjoy

Can't disagree there. I never would have learned of the stupid joy of The Tommyknockers or The Langolears if he were to behave otherwise.

Greatest Stephen King productions: The Shining, and The Shakshank Redemption, everything else have all been different levels of dreck

Say what you want, but Maximum Overdrive will always have a special place in my cheese-loving heart.

"Honey, the ATM just called me an asshole!"

(I probably got that quote wrong, it's probably been at least twenty years since I've seen that movie. One of my favorite SK cameos, though.)

What absolute fucking pussies. Fucking karens.

If adults don't want to see scary movie trailers, they can stay home under the covers. Adults can be responsible and not let their children watch TV unsupervised.

I'm an adult, and I shouldn't be blocked from watching it cause the crybaby christian kumbaya Karen's are afraid of horror movies and want to ruin it for everyone else.

I'd put good money on this being a publicity stunt - submit trailer that contravenes a broadcasters guidelines, posts responses online, get some press attention, profit.

I really, really liked Malignant

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I hope James Wan producing it means it'll be more like Malignant and less like Longlegs in tone

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Hell yea, sounds like it's gonna be good

I did not know it has Elijah Wood in it! I don't think he's shown in any of the trailers for this I've seen
