Long gone? I still have my original discs!

Let me guess, available on Steam for $40, requires you to be logged in to the EA launcher, still a 32-bit app, won’t work on any newer MacOS.

and all that established dlc you may have spent several hundred (thousand or more, even) dollars on..

unusable and worthless, needs to be repurchased.

Better archive the past before enshitification rears its ugly head.

This sounds amazing. Any chance it runs on Linux?

I havent tried to install myself but with wine I can’t see a reason why not.

Might have to tinker a little as there is no specific guide for it; Heroic launcher has a way to run an installer before allowing you to pick the launch executable.

I have gotten sims 1 and 4 working on my system in a similar way.

Damn, this means they'll no longer be abandonware

Ooh, my username checks out 😂

I've had pirated copies on every pc I've owned for a couple of decades, "long gone" lmao

Fuck EA, they ain't seeing a penny from me, and I definitely won't be engaging in any "ports" that probably exist to scrape my data and charge me more money lol

Recently had the urge to play some Sims. I wasn't going to 1000+ euros. First game in a decade I pirated.

Does Windows not run the originals anymore? My original copy of the Sims 2 works perfectly fine in Wine so it's not like it depends on some weird online service or something

I think Sims 1 was physical only.

As a digital product EA halted distribution of the Sims 2 with very little notice:

On July 16, 2014, Electronic Arts announced the end of support for The Sims 2. As a response, The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection was released at the same time as a limited time offer. The game became available for free download from Origin exclusively following an announcement by EA that they would no longer be supporting the game. This offer ended at 10:00 PDT July 31, 2014.

Oddly it looks like Mac got a version via another distributor not long after ?!

I mean yeah but why would anyone want to pay more for a new digital copy of a game instead of just buying a used physical copy? I mean I guess maybe if you didn't have an optical drive, but I bet a usb optical drive and an original copy would be cheaper than the new digital version

They brought Sims 3 into the 64 bit world, but only for Mac for some ungodly reason

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

They never left PC, PC left them.

While I'm a little skeptical of EA when it comes to rereleases of classic games like this, at least these games won't be abandonware anymore.
