Why is the witch alps concept treated like "scientifically accurate dragon MMO?" It's someone who liked the mechanics and the style but not the premise. Disco Elysium is a fucking dismal game, at times. Its sense of humor is omnipresent but overwhelmingly dark. It's not good specifically and solely because the protagonist is a piece of shit, or because the setting is several kinds of fucked. It's a richly-narrated exploration of a wider world filtered through the voices in your head.

If you need it to also say something about the human condition, part of the human condition is that we only have one metric, and we scale our experiences to fit. The kids who spend all their time in one little courtyard think they're gods of their domain. The lorry driver insists he's innately superior despite his own stupid arguments. The cursed receptionist projects her misunderstood feelings onto the world as a fundamental attribution error. None of that has to be about dead bodies, racism, and a ruined economy. Any reasonably perceptive and cynical member of a tiny mountain community is going to have some vicious insight into all her neighbors and their dysfunctional relationships.

If there was a baking side thing in Disco, the dead dude would never even get removed from the tree unless he could be used as an ingredient.
