SOMA is still a game I talk about years after playing it. HOLY SHIT does the ending leave you feeling... lost. It's so good at world building and I need to replay it.
Yeah.
Soma is great! I had a full on panic attack and never finished tho 😂
Edit: Pro tip, if you're generally terrified of the ocean, and also scared of getting trapped/lost in dark labyrinths, then this game may not be for you.
Yeah that stuff is par for the course with horror, but I have really never been able to shake the existential distress of the setting and central concept.
I'm glad Amnesia 2 was less scary. Soma was seriously distressing and stuck with you.
10/10 would watch ChristopherOdd play it again.
I played the entire game on safe mode and I still freaked out the whole time. It was worth it to get to the end, but I pushed myself through the horror.
This game has a safe mode, wherein you can’t die or be seriously attacked.
So the developers said “cool, so what if the monsters can’t attack you, what would they do instead?” One drone will just zap you a bit and push you back, another enemy will scream at you from down the hall and go running full speed…
…and one enemy will just walk right next to you, shoulder to shoulder, and once in a while when you turn, you get nothing but his gross-ass face.
And it still freaked me out. Worth it in the end, but yikes.
Goddammit. I literally have $1.32 in my account
Sonofabitch.
What's your Steam account? I'll gift it to you!
You're the bomb. Thank you!
Excellent game. Scary, interesting worldbuilding to unravel, and a really impactful ending.
This one gave me motion sickness so I haven't been able to play it. Anyone else in that boat?
